RSDL Developer Day

General discussion about Rail Simulator that doesn't really fit in to any specific category. A good place to start if you're not sure what category it should fit in to as well.

We keep trying to think of ways of better supporting the Rail Simulator community and we're considering holding a "developers workshop".
The event would be hosted by the Rail Simulator development team and would allow us to cover some of the more detailed areas of developing add-on content for RS.
We'd hope that attendees would bring along their own creations, (complete or "works in progress") and we'd also expect a guest speaker or two.

We imagine that this would be a one day event, we would however charge a small fee to cover the venue, lunch etc.

So, would you be interested? What specific areas would you like covered? Any preferred location? (perhaps combined or immediately preceding one of the rail shows?).

Over to you.

Regards.
Derek
It's a good idea but it depends where and when? if its down in London somewhere then up here in Macclesfield it'll be hard to get there but now I'm 16 I should be able to go there on my own :P

I would happily host such an event at my venue although there may be a small charge for seating etc as its not something we hold. Its basically a two room nightclub wit hstage area etc that could be used for talkers etc.

If you're interested Derek drop me a pm. The room rental would be free. We are located central to the M6, M1 and East Mids air port.

HaHa Dave

Yep I suppose you are central to those.. The southerners will need oxygen masks to get that high up :D
Great offer though... you have a bar :D

Suggestion

As their seems lot of interest... decide how many pupils you could handle 20ish?

If there are more interested parties would you do more than one "workshop"?

Then let the community find / suggest / supply a couple? of regional venues... hopefully free of charge

The community is in itself a resource with many contacts etc.. I am sure there are many out there with assistance/ resources to offer like Dave..

Let us, help you,help us

I'd be interested in attending, dependent on dates, for something down South, ie London and below :)

Depends on the herbs you bake into your biscuits.

I find it amazing that after all our hints about biscuits no one has sent us any.
I've lost count of the extra hours I've spent helping people to the wee hours...
And yet the demand for more documents, examples, patches, advice, re-skins, new locos, sources assets, fixes, updates, content, extra routes free, our blood, first born and souls is at an all time high.
:)

RS uncovered episode 3 coming your way tonight.

regards

Derek

If there was an event like this somewhere in the north (or midlands with enough notice for that matter), I would be up for it. Leeds, Manchester, York, Sheffield, Hull, even Liverpool at a push. If I had a few weeks to arrange a visit to the in-laws, Birmingham would be spot on :)

As I would like to contribute to supporting this event (s) .... besides.. more biscuits :D

If the timescale was say somewhere around May.. I would like to make some exclusive content for other attendees as an attraction to getting people there... a prerelease model / route or something..

If others did the same you could come away with quite an armful of goodies a month or so before others get their mits on them.

I can see this turning into a RailSimulator convention if you're not careful :D

I am sure you have your own ideas on the workshop but would like to offer any support or help I can... just ask

If you do it in Vienna, I supply the cake, and one you will remember (tested on other people, they remembered).
Bad thing is, there are about 3 Austrian posters here and no one from Czech republic or Slovakia, so you'd rather go to Australia than get you cake here.

At this time, lets not debate location. If you are interested, let us know. Thats all we ask. Based on this response we will choose a location that best suites everyone who aims to attend.

So - Developer Day with the RSDL team. If you wish to attend, let us know.
