This Week..

General discussion about Rail Simulator that doesn't really fit in to any specific category. A good place to start if you're not sure what category it should fit in to as well.

3rd'd and much appreciated also

Between all the members posting questions and answers and the RSDL team adding information, sneak peeks of the future and their obvious enthusiasm for it, I'm loving RS right now.

We just need some GWR locos

We've had alot of stick from some of the US developers because Kuju chose to work with 3rd parties who showed interest , rather than those who wanted to be convinced. Clearly we'll do everything we can to assist any developer (commercial or freeware, although clearly little £'s do provide an advantage! :)) wishing to produce content for Rail Simulator. However I dont think its unfair to say we have enough on our plate with all the documents, examples, patches, advice, re-skins, new locos, sources assets, fixes, updates, content, extra routes free, blood, first born and souls that we give out to find to time to chase down more developers for making RS content.

BUT

Despite all the above, we ARE making effort to get more 3rd Parties going by seeking interest in holding a Developer Day. Granted its only likely we'll get interest from UK developers at present, but if enough interest is expressed from a particular quadrant, im sure we'd be prepared to go on tour :)

I think a lot of developers will only be interested if a plugin for GMAX was released.

gMax, gMax, gMax. Autodesk wish for this aplication to die sadly or they wouldnt have discontinued support. Regardless of whether it is continued by Turbosquid or not, RSDL are powerless to develop any kind of plugin for it, as it is not software governed by RSDL. If however a 3rd party were interested in developing such a plugin....well... you know our email address :)

As for a developer tour to sweden, if your biscuits are good enough and there is enough interest - the RailSim philosophy is always 'never say never'.

Don't sound too enthusiastic then!

Your making it sound like you are being forced to buy it...

My original thoughts, the area around Moreton, would've meant my local making an appearance in KRS. Hence the slight disappointment. Would love to see an accurate version of Ashurst in a sim, although without the much vaunted thingy, erm superelevation, it couldn't be that accurate, as it the track is steeply canted.

More of a fresh start, actually, with the US version. Despite the adulation still being expressed in some quarters for MSTS (see the 3D Trains forums!), I find myself completely unable to get back into it. TRS has improved with some superb 3rd party scenery items but I still can't master the track splines when it comes to maintaining constant radii especially on sharp curves. And despite the improvements it's still a graphics engine not much younger than MSTS.

So I shall have a little potter in RS again, nothing promised - in some respects I'm happy just paying my £20 to sample the Cajon route - but I do hope to produce some sort of freelance route subject to time and other committments.
Hi Vern, you nearly had me fooled with your new icon :D or am i addressing a clone gone wrong  decided finally to re-purchase RS and give it another go? Well glad to have you onboard as they say and let me say i hope you do get the time mate to produce something look forward 8)

Cheers Mart
