Thanks for the reply derek, is there any chance the steam railway will be included as well?

asking perhaps a little too much, that said if you are coming across to the island for research can i suggest you make a trip up to havenstreet anyway - as your doing an 03, not only is there one there but much of the obscure departmental wagons and brake vans used on island line till a few years ago. Im sure they'd be more than happy to show you around.

Looking good; I am liking the extra foliage! The whole scene in general looks a lot more "natural" than the other UK routes.

I'll be forever happy if this really does turn out to be the Island Line!

fantastic work guys, those two screenshots were beautiful, was planning on riding the island line while i was in UK but we figured out it would be too far for a day trip from Oxford, will the Isle of Wight steam railway be included too?
As for inaccuracies of the shipped routes, yes they wernt perfect but i could still easily recognise places along the GWML which i rode a good many times.
oh and the biscuit rap LMFAO!

Why? I think the Black 5 and the 7F where the best loco's included in the original package

, and im not a big steam fan myself but with detail like that who can argue

Interesting...and looking good.
Will this work in the US edition?

Hi,
Yes it will work on all versions.
The new route does not use any items from either core game, while we have taken a couple of textures here and there we have recreated every model and 98% of them are new models solely for this route.
Once we have a couple of key stations in place we will announce the route and rollingstock.
regards
Derek

If it *is* IOW I believe that will be a first for a train sim.
I tried (and failed) to do the Ryde - Ventnor line in MSTS but gave up largely because the tracings in TS Tools gave some totally unfathomable terrain at Ventnor.
My abiding memory of the IOW is a visit many years ago when the missus and myself were nearly savaged by an off the leash Rottweiler in the park at Shanklin! So if you want to add an interesting diorama...

There is a corresponding route for MSTS by nutterjknights, FYI.

Ah, I must check that out.
Presumably no big doggy attempting to remove my throat though!

Really exciting stuff.
I will be particularly pleased to use something other than brambles and shrub lines to flesh out trackside. I know from my own experience that RS is capable of very highly detailed scenery and landscapes, far more detailed than in any of the default routes, and it is pleasing to see that RSDL are taking the time to create a few quality routes rather than many less detailed routes.
The defining hallmark of RS, IMHO, will be quality over quantity.
I also think it is perfectly in order for RSDL to charge a reasonable price for any quality products they produce so that the flow of money in will fund the flow of products out and help to ensure ongoing development of the core program.
Thinking a little laterally, RS gives us the opportunity to model away from the track. When you stop at a station, for example, why not unhitch the camera and take a look around the village or town whilst you are there? See the cottages, houses, churches and factories and people who work in them. Model the area in detail and not just the bit around the track. The possibilities are truly endless. Perhaps there is an opportunity here for 'route groups' to be set up where several people can work on producing a single route using their various personal skills to best effect. Just an idea.
If we are talking about the Isle of White then I think that is a superb choice. When I finish my 'training' route (good pun eh!), my first serious route will be the Bluebell Railway which is relatively short but can be modelled in high detail and there will be a good selection of locos and rolling stock available to exactly match those on the real route.
A lorry load of hobnobs seems in order for the RSDL team.
Geoff Potter
Hi Vern. So you have not completely finished with RS then?

I think this is what is great with RSDL over when Microsoft gave us MSTS (talking about the creators themselves, not comparing graphics or anything) Is that When we were given MSTS we had what two or three official updates and that was it, we were left to our own devices to create our own expansion packs and try to improve the sim.
But with RSDL and RS its a whole different story, RSDL are always trying to improve the sim and whilst doing so they're rolling out their own rollingstock and routes which most importantly isnt 5 min botch jobs, not at all like the 08 for example, Stunning and the 101 looks set to be a little beauty, and this route also looks set to be an absolute cracker.
So I just want to say thanks very much to RSDL for showing devotion to continuing to improve RS and not just abandoning after release and also for taking alot of time and care on the afterstock (and just releasing it is one thing)
So thats why I keep on coming back to it, is because i know unlike MSTS theyre can be dramatic improvements made to the game coding because the original creators are still here
You all deserve a 10ft hobnob

More of a fresh start, actually, with the US version. Despite the adulation still being expressed in some quarters for MSTS (see the 3D Trains forums!), I find myself completely unable to get back into it. TRS has improved with some superb 3rd party scenery items but I still can't master the track splines when it comes to maintaining constant radii especially on sharp curves. And despite the improvements it's still a graphics engine not much younger than MSTS.
So I shall have a little potter in RS again, nothing promised - in some respects I'm happy just paying my £20 to sample the Cajon route - but I do hope to produce some sort of freelance route subject to time and other committments.
