Has anyone noticed that the Flat Bed Wagons for Containers seem to be higher on one end that the other? the buffers are completely misaligned?

Re: KRS Container Wagons
Commonly found in pairs these days, they were originally designed as 'outer' wagons for 'inner' FTA Container flats that do not feature the standard buffer beam for coupling to locomotives and other stock. This meant they used to operate in fixed rakes of 5(?) consisting FSA+FTA+FTA+FTA+FSA. Hence the raised standard buffer beam at one end, and lower buffer arrangement at the 'inner' end.

You write "used to" - do they no longer? When did things change?RSAdam wrote:Commonly found in pairs these days, they were originally designed as 'outer' wagons for 'inner' FTA Container flats that do not feature the standard buffer beam for coupling to locomotives and other stock. A correction to my above comment about arrangement. I have confused the older wagon sets, as according to my various references, FGA/FFA wagons run in the formation I mentioned. FGA being the outer wagon and FFA being the inner.
The FSA/FTA wagons introduced in the early 1990s are direct replacements of the FGA/FFA sets, but do not need to be in the formation of Outer/Inner x3/Outer as before. Although the Inner FTA still requires the Outer FSA if used. James is correct, the FTA's are still in use.

Ahh, very interesting. What's the difference between FSA/FTAs and FGA/FFAs?RSAdam wrote:A correction to my above comment about arrangement. Re: KRS Container Wagons
Depends Adam what Flow/turn they are on. It is quite common to see certain rakes made up of all types of Freightliner Flat and im about to blow the theory sorry AdamRSAdam wrote:A correction to my above comment about arrangement. FSA- FTA -FTA- FSA or in some rakes depending on wether servicable wagons are availible they have run as FSA - FSA.
Most of the time time its down to length of trains/sidings. The FSA FTA has had a revamp and is still in use today. Less so on Gauged areas where 9ft 6 boxes have clearance and the FEA B flat has taken over. 90% of the Southampton bound traffic is FSA FTAs as they havent gauged it yet, the Felixstowe/Ipswich is FEAbs
hope this helps

Re: KRS Container Wagons
and FLA / IKA? Are these just other alternative container flats that dont have Inner/Outer pairing arrangements. Am I also right in thinking K-A wagons are singluar container flats?

Well here goesRSAdam wrote:and FLA / IKA? Are these just other alternative container flats that dont have Inner/Outer pairing arrangements. Am I also right in thinking K-A wagons are singluar container flats?
FFA FGA FSA FTA FEA B KFA are for Standard 8ft 6 20 or 40 ft loads where applicable
FEA B KTA FLA and occasional IKAs are for 9ft 6 boxes
FLA can run in sets of 5 or less and IKA are twins similar in look to the FKA for EWS. The IKA is a popular wagon for DRS too. The FEA B is also a Twin and becoming more common. And finally Yes to the KFA which is as common for Freightliner and for EWS on MOD trains, it still pops up in the odd freightliner set as to make up the numbers i guess.
