Hello
I'm new to the world of the Train Sim having recently bought Rail Simulator and MSTS , i had high hopes when the patch was released and i must say that i am disspointed with the product, it looks lovely but i am having problems with the stuttering that lots of other people have noticed, tried the usual defrag etc but still no luck, it runs fine until it reads info off the hard drive then it slows down.
Have also noticed really bad flashing textures and shaking cab on the Darlington to Newcastle run driving the HST, i was wondering what sort of GFX settings do people run their Rail Simulator at?
pc specs
AMD 2800XP +
Radeon 1950 AGP
1Gb Ram
Windows xp SP2
Phillips Soundcard
2* 80GB Hard drives
Dissapointed

Hi,your pc specs are not huge, try adjusting the detail,
go to the options screen in RS and you will find the detail slider and other options try reducing some of the settings it might help,
the flashing graphics sounds like a graphic card issue,
if you look for the topic" Rail Sim Performance Tweaking " you will find a lot of usefull info.

Going by your description, and by the size of your harddisks, it might be a good idea to replace them by a new one, which will be much faster in general.
Regarding the graphics settings, you need to do a big search on this forum. There are just too many hints to keep them all in mind. The one thing I remember is avoiding the multisampling option in KRS (or keep it low), and set antialiasing etc. high in the Nvidia panel. But you do not have an Nvidia card, so don't ask me where to set it. At least for the Nvidia, it was important not to select "let application choose".
In general, it will take many rounds of experimenting to find the settings you love most. E.g., you could switch off procedural flora or reduce passenger density, or some of the shadows, or reduce texture quality. It depends a lot on your taste, whether you miss some feature if you turn it down or not.
The cab-shaking should go away thanks to the patch. If you still get it, try reducing the refresh rate of your screen or flat panel to 60 Hz, if it is not already there. http://forums.uktrainsim.com/viewtopic. ... 16#p963016
