Kickstart

General discussion about Rail Simulator that doesn't really fit in to any specific category. A good place to start if you're not sure what category it should fit in to as well.

Running Vista x64 with UAC disabled. Even if I Run As Administrator the same message appears.
There is a newer version on my site at http://members.optusnet.com.au/virtualt ... loads.html

Could you please try it and see if it fixes the problem. Unfortunately, not having access to Vista 64, I do not know if this is a particular problem with the O/S, or a bug in my program.
Yes that fixed it, thanks Mike.
BTW if you ever need any help testing your program(s) on Vista x64 just holler. :)

I have had Kickstart running fine for a while but I downloaded the latest version and after installing it , when I try to start it, I get an error message "Error-path/file access error occurred in frmStartup command1"

I then deleted kickstart and reinstalled one of the earlier version which I had working OK, and got the same error message!
What have I done!
Anyone got any clues..please help!

I just installed the newest version as per the instructions. After running it once I now get the same error and cannot run it anymore.

It works on some scenarios for me, but on others I get the errror

runtime error '9' subscript out of range.

Assuming you have installed RS_Kickstart by making a folder RS_Kickstart and copying the RS_Kickstart.exe file and the .pdf help file into it. The first time you run the program, it makes a folder RS_Kickstart\TempFiles

Each time you run the program, it deletes this TempFiles folder then recreates it so that it empties everything out of the temporary folder.

If this is not working, it could be caused by either the TempFiles folder being created as read-only or by users not having scripting enabled on their PCs. This can be overcome by going to the Desktop Start/Run box and entering:-

regsvr32.exe scrrun.dll

Then clicking the OK button. After this everything should work OK

Would anyone who is still getting this problem please email me direct with details of their operating system and the name of the folder they have RS_Kickstart installed in - Thanks

Delete the TempFiles manually each time will get you going, but of course this is not acceptable in the longer term.

Hi Mark,

Which option works on some scenarios, i.e. what exactly are you doing when the error 9 occurs?

I still get the "No Scenarios were found for this route" error.

But i solved it preatty easy. Just copy RS_Kickstart.exe to your Railsimulator folder. And then things works allright.

Hi Mike,

The scenarios with which I have problems with Kickstart are two of my own, one uploaded to this site and the other not yet completed.
I select a route and then a scenario and click on Edit Selected Scenario
After a pause I get the error message runtime error '9' subscript out of range.

If you wish you can try it on the uploaded scenario which is:

Click to view more informationBath Green Park Local [1104658 bytes] - BathGPTemp.zip
File ID: 17887 Date: 01 Dec 2007 - 1017 Downloads

This scenario only includes default stock.
There is a game save file nested (i.e. within it's own folder) in the scenario folder, but I still had the problem when I removed it.
A common feature of both the scenarios which report the error is that they each include lots of static consists. I wonder if this is related to the error since I know that the scenario I have not completed used to work under Kickstart until its later development. This problem occurs with earlier editions of Kickstart and does not have its origin with the present version.

Hi Bab,

In that case, you had not copied Serz.exe into the Windows\System32 folder - However copying the Kickstart into the RS folder has the same effect as serz.exe is also in that folder so Kickstart finds it OK.

Hi Mark,

You just can't get decent programmers any more. Sorry about that, v1.0.34 on my site now fixes that bug. I will have to improve the code, but in the meantime it accepts up to 500 consists, before it only took 100. It opens your scenario fine.

Will need to fix as no doubt someone out there is building something with thousands of loose wagons all over the place.
