Re: Kickstart
Hi,
after some trials Kickstart is working now and I can edit scenarios. Do I understand it right, that when I click "save" my original activity is overwritten? Which files do I have to backup to get back my old scenario?
Thanks
Erhard

Re: Kickstart
When I select S&D I get an error message of 'no scenarios found for this route'. All other routes are fine.

Re: Kickstart
Sorry Claus, clauslr wrote:I have done as in the readme file of kickstart.
I copied the unzipped files into a folder on my desktop named RS_Kickstart.
I also copied the serz.exe from the railsimulator folder to the windows\system32 folder.
I also did this:
"Users with Scripting Errors may need to turn on MS Scripting on their PC. This can be
done by going to the Desktop Start/Run box and entering:-
regsvr32.exe scrrun.dll"
When i click the RS_Kickstart icon in the RS-Kickstart folder on my desktop i only get this error message: runtime error '76' path not found.
Has this got something to do with the mentioned VB runtime files? (And I haven't got a clue what these files are...)
This is a problem with the language of your Windows setup. If Kickstart does not find the RS path in the registry, it looks in c:\Program Files - I assume that you are using a Danish version and that the Program Files has another name. I am working with Javier Torres on this problem where his files are in "E:\Archivos de programa" - Should have a new version today.

Re: Kickstart
Have you downloaded v1.0.9 ? That one shows the locos changed in the list, the earlier version did not.adam3544 wrote:If I press Swap button, shouldn't the selected loco appear in the window of the existing consist.
Right now, nothing happening.
Where I'm wrong. My system is XP Pro SP2.

Each time your Scenario.bin file is edited it is named
Scenario.bak
Scenario.bak1
Scenario.bak2 etc
Scenario.bak is your original file as it was before running Kickstart, so renaming it to Scenario.bin takes you back to where you started.
Note that there is a Scenario.bin file in every scenario folder in your routes folder, so there could be hundreds of them.
Same goes for the Scenarios.bin file of which there is only one for each Route.

Forgive my ignorance, but what is the S&D and where can I download to check this?

Bath to Templecombe (or Somerset & Dorset )
Just also like to take this opportunity to thank you for the fantastic work with these tools.

OK. I had to click and select also the existing vehicle which I attempt to swap.mikesimpson wrote:Have you downloaded v1.0.9 ? Now, I have one additional question.
Each steam locomotive includes engine and tender.
I've selected steam engine and swapped with Class 47 diesel, but the tender remained. So, what shall I do with the tender. If I select both, I obtain two diesel locos, but during saving, there is some kind of error.
Cheers,
Adam

Re: Kickstart
Might be a question of what you're not doing, here's what you SHOULD see;

When you first click edit scenario you get this screen, note the "Contents of Consist" and "Available Stock" windows on the right are empty.

I need to select a consist or service, then the makeup of that consist or service appears in the Contents of Consist window. Now I need something to swap it with, so I use the"select rail vehicles folder" window and select the Rail Vehicles folder that has the engine I want in it. The filter is set for diesel, so I get a list of all diesels in the US folder. Note after that I have clicked on both the engine I'm replacing and the one I'm replacing it with, both need to be highlighted;

So that when I click the "Swap Rolling Stock" button the one in the Contents of Consist window changes to reflect the one I replaced it with.

But what happens when you want to swap stem loco with tender. Which vehicle I need to select: the engine or the tender or both of them ???sniper297 wrote:So that when I click the "Swap Rolling Stock" button the one in the Contents of Consist window changes to reflect the one I replaced it with.

No scenario's found for Bath to Templecombe in RS_Tools either. I have removed and reinstalled RS and the utilities but still no joy. Funny thing is they were working fine, cant think of anything I have done to screw it up.lwaxl00 wrote:When I select S&D I get an error message of 'no scenarios found for this route'. Re: Kickstart
I managed to get the kickstart to work, but when I save the changes to my consist, I get a error saying "malformed XML file" and it completely trashes my scenerios....opps....
Now my railsim just crashes when I try to select a route...
Reinstall me thinks....
I think this program needs ALOT of work before it can be treated as a release....Someone let me know when there is a working version that does not trash the sim.
Is a great idea, can see potential with it, but it needs some work...

Re: Kickstart
Sorry if that happened, however if your scenarios are trashed, then just look in your Routes folder for the route in question, there will be a Scenarios.bin file (the one which is corrupt) and Scenarios.bak which is the backup of your original scenarios.bin file. Delete the bad one and rename scenarios.bak to scenarios.bin and you should be back where you started.maxhall wrote:I managed to get the kickstart to work, but when I save the changes to my consist, I get a error saying "malformed XML file" and it completely trashes my scenerios....opps....

This is clearly shown in RED in the Help file - you did read it before you started didn't you?

Strange, works fine here. Can you email me the Bath - Templecombe scenarios.bin file and the Scenarios folder for same route so I can see why they are not appearing (assuming you have not reverted to a backup).
And no, I was not joking about the S&D, I am not familiar with that part of the UK and RS do call it the Bath-Whatever route.
