Re: Kickstart
I checked that I did that (double clicking on the new RS folder), but no luck.
When I click on start I get a list of the routes but if I try to edit one of them I get the error :"run-time error "5".invalid procedure call or argument".
Must be something in my system that is missing or not configured properly.
RS and FSX and all my applications seem to work perfectly though.Mystery!

Re: Kickstart
Do you mean that when you click on the edit button this error happens or is it when you try to save what you changed ?johnan wrote:I checked that I did that (double clicking on the new RS folder), but no luck.

When I click on the edit button.
Every time I try to open kickstart I have to re-specify where RS is located, so that info is not retained ,even though I cant get any further anyway!

Re: Kickstart
As soon as I click 'Start" on Kickstart screen I get Run-time error '9' Subscript out of range.
Done the serz.exe thing OK , regsvr32 crashes with some arcane message saying "dll was loaded but call to Dll register Server failed error 0x80004005". Is this something to do with VB runtime? If so How do I check ? Running Vista Home Premium.
Any suggestions

Re: Kickstart
I'm running Vista Home Premium and have found that, on my system, Kickstart.exe needs to have 'run this program as an administrator' set on the /properties/compatability tab, otherwise I sometimes get corruption of the 'scenarios.xml' file contained within 'TempFiles' of the Kickstart prog after I have done some scenario changes so that some activities are missing but show up in the game.
Alterantively the prog can be run with UAC switched off which I find usually helps with problem solving.

Re: Kickstart
Can't help with the Vista, don't have it.
"I get a list of the routes but if I try to edit one of them I get the error"
Might be some confusion here, this is for editing scenarios, not routes.
Whatever folder you have RS_KickStart.exe in should also have a KickStart.ini file in it after you run the options button the first time to set the path. If you click the options button again it thinks you're trying to change the path, so don't click the options button if the KickStart.ini is already present and accounted for. Click the start button;

On this screen select a route then click the List Scenarios button. If you click Edit Selected scenario when you don't have a scenario selected to edit the program will melt down, remember this is still a beta.

After clicking List Scenarios you get a list of scenarios (duh!) from that route. Now you need to click on one of the scenarios to select it, again clicking the Edit Selected Scenario button without having one selected will crash it. After that you should get this;

Similar restrictions here, don't try to swap engines when one of the fields is empty, you need to select both the engine you're replacing and the one you're replacing it with before you click the swap engines button.

Re: Kickstart
Maybe I don't understand the aim of this tool since I've tried to swap a steam loco with one of Class 47 diesel.
Apparently everything executed correctly and changes to the scenario has been done, but when I run this scenario, I don't have the reauired diesel loco, only the original steam one.
Where I'm wrong.

Re: Kickstart
Hey there... Glad to know you got some joy here. I did eventually get it working, but when I click on a scenario or route name (I think) - then I just can't get anything to appear in the right-hand side box at all. How do you do that ? I have the upgrade for KRS. I also assumed that the KickStart program should work with the upgrade. Can you or anyone else help me to understand how the whole thing functions, please ?growler37 wrote:I dont know what system you guys are using,i am on XPpro, almark wrote:Well it looks really good, but i have the same problem i read the instructions and directed it to my "Rail Simulator" folder. But i get the same message.
i just unziped the files to the desktop, clicked on the kickstart icon! and your away(or should be)
try that.
i just changed my weather and loco in a free roam scenario worked great so easy now!

Re: Kickstart
Hi Jim,
If nothing appears in the right-hand box when you click on a route and then the 'List Scenarios in Selected Route' button, then you probably have not copied Serz.exe from the RailSimulator\Packager folder into your windows\System32 folder.
Serz.exe is the RS program which converts the .bin files into readable .xml files so that RS_Kickstart can read them.

Re: Kickstart
I notice some users apparently doing the correct things, but the changes are not being made. This might be because under Vista some files in the Program Files\Rail Simulator folder are Read Only, so may not be getting overwritten.
If you have RS_Tools, there is a menu option to make all files Read/Write.
Similarly Error 75 reported by one user is a Read Only file error.
Also please note that if you have v1.0.7 then you should upgrade to v1.0.9 as the earlier version did have some bugs in it, especially if you tried to edit the Geordie Snow scenario for the York-Newcastle route.

If I press Swap button, shouldn't the selected loco appear in the window of the existing consist.
Right now, nothing happening.
Where I'm wrong. My system is XP Pro SP2.

Re: Kickstart
Got the updated programme working fine on Vista64, great little utility. Just one thing though, although I can swap locos with no problem, they show an incorrect number in the game e.g.
Changed the Pigeon Special scenario to use the green 47, but is numbered 53 808, used the same loco in the Swift and Delightful and it's numbered 44 826. Both scenarios seem to be numbering the new loco with the number of the steam loco in the original scenarios. Anyone else find this, or is it just me?
Regards.

Re: Kickstart
I have done as in the readme file of kickstart.
I copied the unzipped files into a folder on my desktop named RS_Kickstart.
I also copied the serz.exe from the railsimulator folder to the windows\system32 folder.
I also did this:
"Users with Scripting Errors may need to turn on MS Scripting on their PC. This can be
done by going to the Desktop Start/Run box and entering:-
regsvr32.exe scrrun.dll"
When i click the RS_Kickstart icon in the RS-Kickstart folder on my desktop i only get this error message: runtime error '76' path not found.
Has this got something to do with the mentioned VB runtime files? (And I haven't got a clue what these files are...)

Working on 2007 version of Copenhagen-Ringsted for TD3. To be released sometime this decade... hmmm
