Goodbye to you all

General discussion about Rail Simulator that doesn't really fit in to any specific category. A good place to start if you're not sure what category it should fit in to as well.

Cheers Mike I installed the .net framework as in your link but I am still getting the same error. RS starts to install then a box comes up saying configuring .net etc then an error message appears saying unable to configure .net framework and throws me out.
I re-installed FlightsimX with no issue so I don't think I have missed any significant tool or update when I re-set my PC.

Can't believe I can get everything back bar RS!!!!! even my internet now works at warp speed!!!

Any other ideas guys??

You may need .net 2.0 or higher ( Iam not sure about this ) as that link is for .net 1.1

I think you need to stop right there and wait a while and CaptScarlet is also right - once .Net 1.1 is installed Windows Update will offer .Net 2.0 and .Net 3.0

I have built in the region of 50 - 60 PCs for various people outside work and I do about 2 a week for work. When I use the Windows XP SP 2 OEM CD to build a PC I put a firewall and anti-virus on it. Then I hook it onto the internet and it generally takes about 72 hours to download all the required updates to .NET and the MSI installers etc. from Microsoft Update. You can hurry it along but building a PC and then trying to install consumer software really doesn't work. At work I just get the WSUS and SMS clients installed and let the internal software distribution run.

There are a bunch of updates to .NET and service packages for it. Just enable the automatic updates or visit the Microsoft Update site and hurry it along.

That's my advice - take it or leave it. I know I have 10 PCs to build in work this week and they will all be left on whilst I am away the following week to acquire the relevant updates from our internal WSUS servers. I can reboot them remotely when they alert me they need a reboot to finalise the patches.
Kindest regards

Guess what? I've only gone and fixed my bloomin' PC and now I'm back on RS Railways for good!!! In the end I decided to go for broke and re-set my PC to factory settings. To my joy it worked, bit of a mare re-installing everything and all the windows updates etc but within a day my PC was firing on all cylinders again. In fact it is running like new now all the clutter and junk has been removed.

Thanks for everyone that assisted, it was really good of you all to offer so much help and makes me realise the astonishing value that these forums have for all us with the same hobby.

P.S Anyone know what's happening on Eastenders?? I've missed it since I've been back on RS!!!
