German Route white distant mountains

I'm getting these gray/white distant mountains in the German Route, anyone else have this ? Any fixes ? Conspiracy theories ? Is it snow...?

I have not studied this route, but the document on terrain texturing mentions three textures for different height, and gives snow as an example for the look of high grounds. I still do not really understand why some people have problems with the absence with "distant mountains" as game feature, accept maybe for performance -- you can define a texture for different heights of remote landscape and then shape it with these magnetic tools (or import the DEM). The only important trick seems to be to bring it within viewing distance (2 km?). So if the DEM would show the mountain at 3km from the route, you need to fake a double 1 km nearer to the route (and a bit smaller, for perspective).

Rendering snow covered mountains in a slightly misty moonlit sounds a bit more difficult and less important to me, as a layman, then getting the light on wagons to match the impression in the asset previewer and the photo editor. But you are certainly right, it looks funny, also because the engine does not illuminate the environment at all. But then again we do have these situation in winter, much more extreme than in your shot, where mist is hanging in the valley while there is bright light on the mountains. And since the snow there becomes icy in the sun, it gets really reflective.

Anyway, I would attribute most of such limitations to the fact that the RGB colour model is not too good in representing the hues of very desaturated colours the human eye sees in dark(ish) environments. Just wait a few years, and 24bit colours will be replaced by 48bit colours ...

Hi,
The hills are that colour because the fog is that colour.
For some reason, and I can not point fingers, a night timefog colour was not set to match the darkness of the hills.

One other 'Night' thing I've just noticed is that the 'Allotment' decal glows at night - has this been raised/fixed before?

Didnt need raising as we know about it, not fixed yet as it was lower down the list.
I suggest not using it, I consider it shonky modelling anyway and looks 'last gen'.
However, I know it can be useful in certain situations so it will get changed.

Ah thanks. That makes sense. I'll try to have a go at tweaking it (but not sure if that is possible). Danger non-artist at work...:crazyeyes:

No i dont think it would be snow not on hills and not in summer, RS doesn't render colours at distance only when you get closer as Andis said in techno speak, sorry andis more of a layman than you :roll: Not sure exactly what it is you can "tweak" obviously something i missed when i created "late night coals" for this route, i was a bit P****d off when i saw the gray whitish hills but just thought ho hum something we have to live with like we did with MSTS!
