What to expect from Rail Simulator?

Hello one and all.

After using Microsoft Train Simulator off and on for the past few years, I recently decided to purchase the North American version of Rail Simulator and while I am waiting for it to be delivered, I had some questions.

1. Are any of the European Rolling stock on the American version? I was especially looking forward to the HST.

2. What North American Freight Trains are included (I am hoping the Dash 9 (Or the new Evolution Series which replaces the Dash 9 from 2005 (Click Here for more information on the Evolution Series Locomotives), GP-38 and SD-40)

3. Are there any other major differences (Besides rolling stock & routes) that I should be aware of?

Please forgive me if these questions have been answered in another thread. I tried searching, but couldn't find any relevant topics. Please feel free to link me to any relevant information to my questions.

1 - the North American version comes with 3 out of the 4 routes (and stock) that appeared on the European version - only the York-Newcastle route is missing (and will be available later as an add-on - price not decided yet). Therefore you should get the FGW liveried HST, but probably not the original blue-grey livery version.

2. For screenshots of the US locos, look here: http://www.railsimulator.com/en/downloads

3. The US version should include some bug fixes that Europe has not had yet - we await the first patch. The DEV Tools are still not included, you have to register, and download (for free) from http://www.railsimulator.com

Note that the bug fixes between the EU and US releases are nominal, there's not much noticeable really - for all intents and purposes from a usage perspective they're pretty much the same; I don't think the current release of dev tools will work with the US release though due to this slight version mismatch, I await to be proved wrong.

I think the plan is to release the first patch which will apply to both versions of the sim, bring it all in to line and have one single set of dev tools and remove all this complexity of which version you have.

Matt.

That makes sense...but the question beckons, why didn't EA/Kuju release both versions at the same time instead of doing a staggered release as it were?

Also, the Devtools currently on the Rail Simulator site will not work with the NA version? Just want to make sure I am clear on this before I go downloading it.

They should have just released one version for this sim and included all 5 routes on that version, But that is just my opinion.

Actually this will require an update to the RSDevTools.

Will that update be released at the same time as the first upgrade?

Agreed. It will be interesting to see what the extra charge is to buy the US route for the European version of Rail Simulator. I'm also looking forward to the patch and some info on what exactly it will fix and add to Rail Simulator. It's been very quiet on this front and some sort of update on it would be appreciated.
