Bang goes my DVD

General discussion about Rail Simulator that doesn't really fit in to any specific category. A good place to start if you're not sure what category it should fit in to as well.

I realise your hands are tied and I can understand you needing to keep the disk in the drive all the time. However, we're not all paid employees of the developers and some have other uses for their DVD drive making that impractical. Personally I will no longer buy any programme that forces me to use a dongle or need a disk in the drive permanently. I have in the past and hardware changes have rendered the products unusable.

If I do not state my case nothing will be done to reverse that short sightedness so I make no apologies for keeping on reiterating it.

Hi John, I'm not trying to change your mind that’s your call.
I suggest getting yourself another dvd drive so you can just leave RS in there, you can pick them up dirt cheap nowadays.
So that way you can always have one drive free.
:)

But seriously it was not even a call we had a choice on and even if we did I'm not sure what we would have chosen.
We know in the long run we can do little about piracy but we can at least make it difficult for those that chose to steal our hard work.

Trouble is that the pirates know their way around many of the security features anyway, rendering the need to keep the DVD in the drive obsolete. The only ones who suffer are those who don't indulge in piracy and therefore have to keep the DVD in the drive to their possible disadvantage.

Well, I'm afraid it is and its not going to change in the short term.

I'm just sorry that a few are put off because of it.

I think having two drives is a sensible option anyway, it would be nice if a crack was made for it though as it's a ball ache waiting for the elastic band to spin the disc up

Hi

To some this may be a good idea to have a second dvd drive in thier computer. But when you consider the replacement cost of the DVD as being only quote- "Rail Simulator hand book £7.50 per disc" its hardly worth the effort. At least economically.
