Problems installing RS_Tools_TMB

General discussion about Rail Simulator that doesn't really fit in to any specific category. A good place to start if you're not sure what category it should fit in to as well.

Problems installing RS_Tools_TMB

Post by PWHolmes »

Trying to run regsvr32.exe comdlg32.ocx into my Desktop start button RUN box, I get "The module "Richtx32.ocx" was loaded but the call to DLLResisterServer failed with error code 0x8002801c". Errrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.........??????????????

I have a Vista 32 PC. What do I do now????

This thing is an absolute pig to install to a computer moron like me. I am thankful to people like Mike in Oz who have taken the trouble to develop and publish these tools, but surely this sort of basic function allowing the deletion and renaming of unwanted scenarios and routes should be included in to anything that could be considered a finished product.

I am not convinced that this product was ready for release.

You cant install it via the run box, you have to do it from a command prompt which is found in "Accessories". You also have to right click on the command prompt and select "Run as Administrator" .

Many thanks for the lightning response, John.

For my benefit, exactly what do I type in the Command prompt?

I'll assume you are right as I know diddly-squat about these things, but the instructions specified the run box. Why were the instructions incorrect?? Was this for some older version of windows or something. (Another learning curve starting here methinks!!)

You type in " Regsvr32 comdlg32.ocx " or " Regsvr32 richtx32.ocx " ( without the quotes) depending which file you are trying to register. Make sure you have the latest version of RS_Tools_TMB as well. The instructions were for XP but it did say that if you have Vista then you might need to have to run with administrator rights and the only way to do that is with the command prompt (the run box doesn't give you that option).

RichTx32 is the killer... the other registered no problem via the Run box.

I know I am hopeless, but just remind me again how to run with Administrator Rights from the command prompt!!

Thanks again, John.

I have done what you suggested.... successful........... and (aggggghhh!) not. It must be me but.....

Did the Administrator bit, OK, Richtx32 now registered OK, RS_Tools_TMB runs great, opened programme, deleted unwanted route and scenarios. They do not appear at all in RS_Tools_TMB. Fantastic!!

But when I run KRS, they are still there, all of the unwanted scenarios and the spurious route.

I feel a bit of Shakespeare coming on, "Who will rid me of this troublesome ...........???"

Paul

Must try to get the help working!!!

I don't know if this will fix it but you could try deleting the blueprints.pak file in the folder Rail Simulator\Assets\Kuju\RailSimulator . Don't worry about deleting this file as it will be recreated when you start the game.

It shouldn't as its a cache of what is installed. Whenever new content is added to the game this file is deleted so it can be recreated and pick up the new item. Anyway if you are unsure or if it doesn't work then you should contact Mike Simpson the author of the tool and ask him what the problem is. It may have something to do with the files being read only ( but I'am not sure )

Paul, you are not the only one who has had problems with this tool. I have Vista32 and have gone through a similar experience as you. I finally gave up trying to get it to work after many hours. The programme works OK because other people have told me so, so it must be us.

I also tried removing via notepad and according to the XML file before using the Serz.exe programme,I had removed the scenario markers and script, then on running the KRS programm, its still there.

I also cannot believe that a program capable of creating a route or scenario did not have a procedure for deleting the same.

Best of Luck

I am glad to see someone is actually using my program :-) I also agree that it seems beyond understanding that RS was released with no means of deleting routes or scenarios. It must be obvious to everyone that the first few routes and scenarios experimenters build are going to be pretty bad and will require removal at some stage.

Actually removing the Routes and Scenarios was easy enough (once you have worked out which folder holds them - really bright idea naming folders in HEX codes), you just delete the folder. Unfortunately the list which appears in the game is held in the Scenarios.bin file or the Routes.xml file so even if you delete the Scenarios and Routes you do not want, they still appear in the list in RS.

RS_Tools_TMB removes the folders and then removes the items from the above 2 files.

Unfortunately, under Vista, this is not always as simple as it sounds. RS_Tools needs to be run as the administrator, and requires both the RichTextBox and CommonDialog controls to be installed on your PC. These are NOT distributed with Vista, but depending on what else you have installed, might well be there already. Programs like Route_Riter, Conbuilder, 3D Canvas etc which are used by simulator users all use these controls.

As some users have found, they are not always easy to install depending on how the user has set up the security on his/her machine, so what works for some does not work for others. Also the amount of computer knowledge required to install RS_Tools is not 'beginner level'. As with Route_Riter, I always said that users of such programs who are unable to install them, really should not be trying to use them in the first place, as such programs are very powerful and do have the capacity to render your Rail Simulator unusable.

I'm not arguing (just explaining why I'm right).

Mike,
my gripe is not with your utility, I suppose eventually KRS will allow some sort of control over route and scenario management with a patch. I thought XP was OK on my old machine, but everything now comes with Vista on it now and it is a bit of a . at times. Ive had problems with other software as well.

By the way was the utility written in Visual basic or Visual C++

Thanks for your prompt reply and concern.
