Installing Ian's Plate Layers hut

General discussion about Rail Simulator that doesn't really fit in to any specific category. A good place to start if you're not sure what category it should fit in to as well.

Installing Ian's Plate Layers hut

Post by nwallace »

Once you have extracted the RPK and gone into Rail Sim Editor
Select the Object tools.
Click on the box with the play button (Object Set Filter)
Select IanM42 and then tick the box for scenery.

And it will appear in the list.

Nice little facility no more scrolling through huge lists of stuff added to a ref file :-)

Cogrates on a 'first'. Nice little addition, although I had a job finding it untill I read this post, was looking for it in the lists on the left..

Like the way they just install where you put them, at least they are on flat ground and not half buried. RS gets better and better.

It does stand out a bit bright compared with Kuju's models. I will play around with applying the materials in 3D Canvas when I get some more free time.

Worth reading the docs about pre-shading, Ian. I don't know if 3dc can render to texture, or use more than one UV channel, but that's the secret.

Hi,
Pre shading helps, but you don't need 2 channels, The shading can be put into the base texture and is in many of the buildings and smaller objects.

Is that the concrete version? Was there a patern for a metal version too?

I don't think you need to do anything in 3D Canvas, but just maybe darken the textures by adjusting the brightness/contrast in photoshop or whatever.

Thinking of doing a corrugated lamp hut myself, you know, the ones that look like Anderson shelters

The corrugated iron structures were a favourite of the Great Western Railway. The Southern Railway made great use of prefabricated concrete structures, produced at their works by Exmouth Junction.
