If you purchased the game via EA Downloader you must keep EA Downloader installed on your pc to play the game.

You may experience longer than normal install and uninstall times on Windows Vista. To alleviate this you can disable Anti-Virus software and System Restore points for the duration of the install and uninstall.

==========================
IV. NOTES ON COMPATIBILITY
==========================

Rail Simulator is designed to run on Windows XP compatible graphics and sound cards. Drivers for these devices are provided by the respective card manufacturer and may result in compatibility issues beyond our control.

If you are experiencing any issues, it is always recommended that you obtain and install the latest drivers for your hardware. The majority of hardware vendors have the latest drivers available for download via their websites.

Most issues can be resolved by updating hardware drivers and is always recommended.

Notice: This game contains technology intended to prevent copying that may conflict with some DVD-ROM, DVD-RW and virtual drives.

====================================
V. KNOWN ISSUES AND TROUBLESHOOTING
====================================

1) Vista support: Due to the way that Rail Simulator handles saving during use of the editor the player will require an admin account.

2) If you use the editor tools to change the provided routes or scenarios, you may find that elements of the game fail to work. In this case you should repair or re-install using your Rail Simulator installation disc.

It does make me wonder, though, whether we wouldn't be better splitting off a new forum which is for installation and setting up issues. I am coming across two distinct types of threads in this forum: How do I make it run {better} on my machine, and I like/don't like The simulator/The publishers/The people/Sun readers/Terrry Wogan listeners/grammar and punctuation.

The Romans wouldn't have let it get like this :)

Since this file is installed in the Rail Simulator folder, what is the need for it to be a sticky here?

If people don't bother reading the docs that came with the program, I can't see them bothering to look here.

John

PS or was the original post intended to be sarcastic?

Hi
I don't know if the original post was meant to be sarcastic........ my reply certainly was.
Because I had read the read-me, as I do with all read-me's , and I'd used the EA test before the game came out.
Using that data I should be able to run KRS, and I can't.........so personally I see it as incorrect.
Cheers

Its not really fair to say that in my opinion as you don't want to update your graphics drivers ( in case it upsets MSTS, which I understand ). Unfortunately for new games they require the latest graphics drivers and sometimes they will break older games. The only option is either to stay with what you have currently or experiment and try to find ones that work for both.

A Geforce Go is a laptop card. A Gf Go 7600 will probably run at around Gf 7600GS levels but as it says in the ReadMe: "Laptop versions of these chipsets may work but are not supported".

Actually I though what I posted was useful..........don't believe that document........ its wrong.
My PC fits all the criteria and it don't run.
Therefore it isn't a lot of use.........thats my advice to potential customers.

Ah well. From what you've said about RS, it's probably as well it doesn't, just to avoid further dissapointment.

OK - that will be enough. The original post is the official "readme.txt" file,

Jon - you have made your views clear. Are you still running without a swapfile ? If so then please try enabling a swapfile since this has been highlighted a couple of times. I have a reasonable PC about half way up the system specifications range and I don't get problems but when I I tried the MSTS no swap file approach that improved performance on my low end PC then RS did not work at all.

You may well see that as a flaw but then again you might end up like me running MSTS and RS on separate PCs.
Kindest regards
