I've always thought tighter control of content would be the case with any new sim when it came to the crunch. Not saying I like the idea of quality control, assuming anything like it is planned. This is all speculation. That said, poor add-ons do reflect on the sim and the developer has to take that into account.
The licensing issue requires some control of the tools or stuff will appear all over the place for sale.
I'd like to see freeware content providers given far more protection though in return. People finding their stuff on EBay or hacked was a constant source of concern with MSTS.
RSDL could keep everything in house and we could do nothing about it.
I'm optomistic but pragmatic as it is a business and I've never had any right to what Hornby or Lima produced in the way of models and don't expect it here. If RS fails, so be it. It's none of my business. I'd like it to be but unless I could do better, that's the way it is. Cautious optomism to avoid disappointment is the only way forward as nothing in life is certain and it's pointless worrying about that which we have no control over.

Well that seems a bit drastic, and to be honest if I felt as strong as that I would return it to the seller, and ask for a refund.bigvern wrote:Actually Jon, I think the whole thing needs uninstalling and putting on Ebay!jbilton wrote: Yes I would agree.
The whole thing needs rethinking.

It's all rather sinister and does tend to lend itself to the earlier conspiracy theories which circulated regarding licensing and control of content. Will users have to pass some sort of test before being allowed access to the tools? Will they be keyed to your serial number? Will we have to sign off our souls like Faust to Satan?
In all this it is the "casual" user buying RS in the shops who will suffer, as they will not understand why they can't have ready access to tools that offer the ability to go into a UI editor and set up a timetabled run with some AI traffic, using a consist of their choice.
However my dilemma is that it now appears the tools on the DVD do not actually allow you to create simple activities.
Personally I have no wish to develop whether paid or unpaid, therefore I was never interested in the dev tools.
However I do enjoy making a few simple activities for myself.
Where does that leave me.

I have the same desire as you, so the answer is easy, download the dev tools and learn how to create your own scenarios which I hope wont be that hard.jbilton wrote: Personally I have no wish to develop whether paid or unpaid, therefore I was never interested in the dev tools.

I absolutely agree with John, i aint interested in the dev tools either and i did want the ability to create my own ativities/scenarios straight out the box, and if the scenario system is as complicated as Trainz that's me done for! Guess its a case of downloading content when it becomes available???CaptScarlet wrote:I have the same desire as you, so the answer is easy, download the dev tools and learn how to create your own scenarios which I hope wont be that hard.jbilton wrote: Personally I have no wish to develop whether paid or unpaid, therefore I was never interested in the dev tools.
