Mexican wave when coupling

General discussion about Rail Simulator that doesn't really fit in to any specific category. A good place to start if you're not sure what category it should fit in to as well.

Mexican wave when coupling

Post by jonnysmooth »

Hi all,

I get a rather starnge effect when coupling the Black5 up to a string of BR 12T vans in a free-roam scenario that I've created. The vans were placed by myself in an unbroken consist, but when I back the loco (tender to the vans) up to the vans and hit cntrl+shift+C the vans jump one at a time in a mexican wave style. Quite amusing  .

What isn't quite so amusing is the fact that the tender decouples from the loco and won't couple up again!

Has anyone else had the tender run away when coupling?

Cheers.

The 7f tender used to break away when I was trying to couple up with a Black 5. I've been experimenting recently with coupling. You have to approach really slowly, 0.2 mph. It helps to be watching the gap above or from the side using the 6 camera. Hit the A key and immediately hit the D key, and the gap will close by a few inches. You have to get the two sets of buffers just touching and at the same time get the speed to 0 mph. If the buffers compress at all you will then get the leaping trucks or Mexican wave. I found if I compressed the buffers by accident I could roll forwards gently and have another go at coupling, usually with success.

Hi AdamsRadial,

Yes you're right... I made sure I was millimetre perfect before hitting the coupling key and this time it worked. Many thanks.

Also I've found I can load my saved progress on the free roam, at last I can have a drive and not start from scratch!

Cheers.
