Pilots and Train Engines
In free roam scenerios, if you drive a pliot or train engine of a double header, does the other engine add to the dead weight, or does it assist, even though no smoke comes out of it?
i've just taken 13 out of evercreech north with black 5 and 7f. came panting to a stand on the 1 in 50 quarter mile south of prestleigh viaduct. detached a coach, restarted, just made cannards grave summit, gained momentum in the dip over charlton road viaduct, but came to a stand again just north of hamwood. this was with no smoke from the pilot/

Re: Pilots and Train Engines
Hello Nick,
When I've recreated the Up Pines running into Templecombe, I stopped the train just past Templecombe Number 2, with a Black 5 at the head.
I then coupled a 7F onto the rear to drag the train into Templecombe Upper.
As the 7F dragged the train uphill, you could hear the Black 5 working at the opposite end of the train...
Very Best Wishes,
Bob.

Re: Pilots and Train Engines
Nick,
It would appear that you can't create a double headed train which is coupled up in the editor.. When I tried this the driver icon disappeared from the second engine leaving it unpowered.
However if you create two seperate engines and couple one onto another in the game they retain their drivers and you can hear the seperate engine sounds, both are powered up and you can swap between them.
Hope this helps.

Re: Pilots and Train Engines
I have struggled to get the black 5 to couple up to the 7f, I ended up with the 7f bouncing away from its tender, which stayed coupled to the front of the black 5. In a bit of a mood I then chased the 7f until I was able to join everything up together, but I wasn't able to swap cabs. Any chance you could let me know the steps to couple up?

Re: Pilots and Train Engines
The way I coupled up the engines was to drive a Black 5 then a 7F from Bath shed onto a rake of coaches in Green Park station. I used the Black 5 first then the 7F and had no problems although the sounds from the two engines when working hard up the bank can get a bit confused.
Hope this helps.

In the real world, the two locos' sounds would get confused due to the vastly differing driving wheel diameters.

Re: Pilots and Train Engines
Morning Bob,
what I meant to say was that my soundcard gets confused with outputting two different sounds as it puts out first the Black 5 then the 7F, then both together and then none at all
. It then repeats but not necessarily in the same order. It also depends on where the camera is placed as well but the worst is from a mid point between the two engines.
Regards,
Keith

I've read on their forum, that in KRS sounds are treated as graphics (!), therefore if the graphic settings are lowered, sound may possibly play better...
I haven't tried this, but I hope that it helps

Re: Pilots and Train Engines
Thanks Bob I'll give that a try but it does beg the question. how come you should get better sound effects using an X-Fi sound card if the sounds in the game are treated as graphics ?

Is that some sort of weird programmer's logic, TV used to be called Radio with Pictures.
Good grief!

Sometimes this game makes me want to bang my head against a wall.
