Dev Tools due on 12 Nov

General discussion about Rail Simulator that doesn't really fit in to any specific category. A good place to start if you're not sure what category it should fit in to as well.

I think its safe to say Matt P at least has the dev tools, or more accurately a version of them, the fact there taking another 3 weeks to release them suggests they will come with a sizeable number of fixes for other problems too - sensible because getting tools out then releasing a big patch later could well see a lot of the custom content created in the meantime rendered unusable - wouldnt do their PR much good that! its taken enough of a hit as it is...

I rather suspect that the first patch will be released on the same day as the dev tools, and that the dev tools will only be compatible with the patched game.

Also, it seems clear that the dev tools will support the creation of timetabled scenarios, but there are no immediate plans to release any default timetabled scenarios. One does wonder whether the tools will be sufficiently user-friendly to create timetabled scenarios automatically, without having to have as much expertise in timetable planning as a real-life railway company: after all, if the developers can't use them to create a timetabled scenario, what hope to users have?

I agree... I would say it's quite likely a patch is released with the DevToolKit.

I'm sure the tools won't be too complicated (or at least for some) to begin with... but as people get used to them, more content will be created faster. I can see in a few months, people creating scripts for more realistic signals, so that they can be used within routes. If possible, people will modify the default stock too to include missing features such as DRA (I assume that's missing? game still not arrived...). If engines can be scripted, then I'd say it's very likely.

People need to quit complaining about the game. Once all the bugs have been sorted, and missing features have been added... it WILL become the better rail sim, as long as Kuju support it better than MSTS...
