Good evening everyone
I've got another grump again

Off Road Motorbike Nuisance!
The youths or local pond life on our estate have been charging round on wretched off road motorbikes and quads
This has been going on almost daily at different times .....even late evening
Yesterday I saw a Policeman and I mentioned it to him
He said we are aware of the problem but we are not allowed to give chase
He added the so and so's are so brazen they taunt us knowing we cannot chase them
Then he said the best you can hope for is that they have an accident and don't live to tell the tale
I have to be honest and say they are a menace without doubt ( the bikers not the Police) :P
Kind regards Stephen

"OWNEY the Postal Dog" reminded me of a dog in my younger days. I was working in an office in the centre of Birmingham and one of my colleagues had an Old English sheepdog named "Shep"
Shep came to the office every day with his owner and spent much of the time under his desk, but every day he would be let out and go for a ride on the trams - by himself! He was well known to the tram staff.
One day he went missing and was not found for about three days, turning up in Ladywood.
The tram routes on the Bristol Road route in those days were numbered 35, 69, 70, and 72 if I remember correctly and ran out to the city boundary at Rednal and Rubery. The 35 turned off part way and ran a shorter journey. Shep knew all these routes well. But he had got on a number 36 tram whch turned off part way and ran in a completely different direction. The poor dog had got off at the terminus and was completely lost, in a strange and to him unknown part of the city.
He was found because he was so well known.
Shep also had another moment of fame. His owner lived in a typical Birmingham suburb on an avenue lined with trees on both sides of the road and houses higher than the road with fairly steep drives. Shep's owner had a car with an automatic gear box, not too common in those days. On a morning of very thick fog (and in those days that fog was THICK!) the car would not start. With Shep sitting on one of the front seats, his owner took the starting handle and tried to start with that. On the second or third attempt the engine sprang to life. Unfortunately the gear box was in "Drive" and when the engine started at a fast idle the car moved off down the drive with the brakes completey ineffective. Trying to get into the door just resulted in severe bruisiung and the car disappeared into the fog, followed shortly afterwards by an alarming bang.
It had gone down ne drive and up the one on the other side of the road, hitting the car parked on its owner's drive. When that fellow came out see what had happened he saw another car with a dog driving it had caused expensive damage to both cars.
It was not funny at the time"

Good morning
Just before I deleted it I forwarded it to the Halifax Security Team
It just makes them aware of this type of activity
Wouldn't it be great if the scammers were scammed for a change?

Top e-petition at the moment ..

Any persons convicted of criminal acts during the current London riots should have all financial benefits removed. No tax payer should have to contribute to those who have destroyed property, stolen from their community and shown a disregard for the country that provides for them.

Well, that's well thought through !

But surely, if they are convicted and sent to prison, the tax payer will be contributing to their upkeep while they are in prison!

Good morning everyone
I've got to have a grump this morning

This has been mentioned previously sometime back

Good manners and the lack of?
When I am out and about if I meet a stranger I always greet them with Good morning Good afternoon etc
About 2 out of 5 will reply but usually I'm ignored.
I won't deny it makes me angry and saddened that good manners are seemingly disappearing
Now I won't stop greeting people the way I do but it does grate a little
Grump over
Kind regards Stephen

Mmm . . . . I can agree with you in part.

I certainly meet a lot of people when walking the dog, and in general other dog walkers will acknowledge your greeting or initiate one. Non dog walkers equate to the proverbial curate's egg.

It can be interesting as to who does and who doesn't. We've a number of young ones who are more likely to acknowledge than some of the more mature people, which might seem odd but in fact just goes to show you can't judge the proverbial book by it's proverbial cover.

One interesting episode has always stuck in my mind. In the course of walking the South Pennine Ring - a series of canals starting and finishing in Castlefield , Manchester - Rufus and I met many people and in nearly every instant exchanges were pleasantly polite. However on the one occasion when my wife joined us, the first person we met was a woman - probably in her 30s - to whom my wife addressed a polite "Good afternoon"! The response suggested that she move off in short jerky movements!!!!! :o :o :o :o

What could I say after extolling the virtues of always meeting friendly people on my walks! Mind you even now it still amuses us!

Good morning Alec
Yes it is surprising I too have received a polite greeting from younger people
Sometimes it is the older ones who are rude :o
I suppose it takes all sorts
Kind regards Stephen
