Well if your bills about £160, then yes, if not it must be somthing else.

Good morning everyone
BT have increased my direct debit payment from £38.00 per month to £60.00
I have used my land line more recently especially since coming out of Hospital following an operation
I was house bound for a time hence using my phone more than usual
What I intend doing is just using my mobile phone and then hopefully BT will reduce the monthly payments
I have settled my bill in full to ensure the slate is clean so to speak
I note BT are charging 7 pence per minute for calls made during the day time
Kind regards Stephen

Well the other good bit of news is apparently the only thing I'm entitled to is £65 a week job-seekers allowance (for the first year).
Now my Mortgage is £80 and my Council Tax is £30 a week. :o
Not sure how thats going to work.
This country is a joke.

My office produces mainly paper and cardboard waste.

The paper is usually in the form of reasonably confidential documents and goes off to the shredders.

The rest is perfectly able to be re-cycled so as the Council do not offer a practical re-cycling service, I offered to take it myself to the local recycling centre. This suggestion was greeted with a threat to prosecute me for disposing of commercial waste at a public recycling centre. I was rather surprised as I thought the sentiments were that the Council wanted to recycle as much as they could for the good of the World but apparently it does not work like that. They see re-cycling as a cost to them and will only do the minimum of recycling required.

I have to continue with a system that has operated for a long time where I buy flimsy white plastic bags from the Council Rubbish department, fill them with my rubbish and then they take them away to put them in landfill. Over time there must have been a massive amount of perfectly good recyclable waste that has been chucked into landfill which when multiplied by many people like myself must a staggering amount.

The other irony is that the waste bags that the Council charge me for are nowhere near thick enough to prevent bursting and scattering the contents all over the street so I always have to put a thicker black bag inside the flimsy white one to ensure that bursting does not occur.

My conclusion is that my council, at least, has no moral interest in recycling but just do the minimum required to satisfy legislation.

And it's only going to get worse, for people on low incomes. Certainly brings an element of truth to the old adage, " the rich get richer and the poor get poorer!". Now let's all wish Mr Cameron a happy new year! :fist:

Hello again
Here is something that will make you smile
Last September I decided I'd like to buy a pay as you go mobile phone ready for going into Hospital
I went into Carphone warehouse and I asked the assistant for the cheapest handset on Pay as you go
She picked up a phone enblazened with the "England" logo and said this one is 99 pence
I said given Englands performance it is a wonder you're not giving those away :D
Being as I don't follow football I asked for the next cheapest phone a Nokia for £4.99
Now the credit on my phone is worth more than the hand set :D
Kind regards Stephen
Ps It is just a basic mobile that will allow me to send texts etc no bells or whistles but just does what I need

Good idea, I will get on to them straight away although they may not cover my area. Best try my local scouts.

You are a bit more advanced than me Stephen, I have only sent a couple of texts ever.

Hi Jon
Surely if you are on job-seekers allowance, you will get a rebate on your council tax, I do, have a word with the council.
Don't forget, you need to ask, they won't tell you.

Well there was a time that when you applied for Job seekers allowance or whatever the equivalent used to be called you were told about whatever else you could claim by the client advisor or whatever they were called, just goes to show how we have progressed.

Lost in the final of an online backgammon tournament tonight.

No money at stake but very frustrating to lose in the 6th round after 3 months of playing. Grrrr. Just got outplayed by my opponent and the dice gods played their part - with 2 dice there are 36 possible combinations and we all know that when playing. Just seems sometimes you make the optimal play and then a joker roll of the dice whacks you between the eyes.

Still - I won 3 tournaments in 2010 and 3 in 2009 so there is still plenty of time this year.
Kindest regards

I seem to be getting a call from "george" at T Mobile every evening telling I've been selected for a free phone.
My replies are getting more and more offensive but he doesn't seem to get the message.

I had a couple of calls some time ago that started:

"HHHHMMMMMMMPPPPPHHHHHH!!!!!" ( very badly spelt -but imagine the sound of a big ship's horn blasting loudly for around 2 seconds!)

Followed by a forced sounding cheerfull, almost singing American man's voice: "Hello! This your captain speaking! Congratulations, you've......"

That's all I heard.....I put the phone down immediately I recovered from the shock of the loud sound drilling into my eardrum!

I can imagine some old dear nearly having a heart attack on hearing that!
