Not exactly outside my house but outside our company rented place in Egham they are doing something to the Pooley Green level crossing (about 300 yards away) - it is shut from 22:00 tonight until 05:15 tomorrow and for the next 3 nights. Had a wander down there earlier and they have one of those Unimog things that can run on rubber tyres or on rails. Lots of Network Rail type guys down there now in the hi-vis jackets and cones galore. God knows what the actual purpose is but the term "level" crossing is a misnomer in this case - that crossing always has been like a ploughed field since we have been here (2 years now).

Just watched the first HGV have to do a complicated turning manoeuvre to go back from whence he came and follow the diversion route. Many more will do that between now at 05:15 tomorrow since they evidently don't understand plain English maybe on the account that most of them seem to be Polish or Estonian ??? From 05:00 they will be queuing for the reopening since that is quicker than taking the diversion  Sat outside with the engines and reefers running

It's not all bad - I saw one of those massive railgrinder things a few weeks ago - not working but running through towed by a big diesel (66 I think). Just stood their at the barrier wolfing down my 1/2 pounder cheeseburger with burger sauce and it glided past so I never managed to snap a photo on my mobile since I was expecting an EMU of some sort.
Kindest regards

It's quiet, everyone's being kept awake by the sound of me tapping on my keyboard whilst posting on the UKTS forums.

Person across the road has been mowing the lawn since half 9, little kid across the road has started his all day ritual of running around the garden trying to catch his mums dog and pick it up... And the suns shining. Joy. NOT

It's dark, it's cold, it's wet. Forgot to restock with coal on Friday - so down to the last quarter of the last bag. Might need to pick up one of those no so cheap 20kg bags at the service station tomorrow, enough to keep us going until Monday.

I'm recharging the camera batteries or I'd post a pic.

Cheers Bazza

2 metres outside our lounge window is a mass of grey feathers, about 1 metre across. Looks as if a collared dove has met a sparrow hawk; no sign of the carcase.

Hi. The white line boys are repainting the road markings. Very interesting to see how it's done and amazing to see the cars pass over the new paint without leaving tyre marks all up the road. It must be very quick drying stuff they're using.
I love watching work, i could watch it all day.

I saw them painting lines in Morecambe yesterday; the 'wheelbarrow' type thing that makes the lines has a gas bottle attached, and the paint is 'flame dried' immediately after being laid down.
