Hopefully it'll mean he'll have less column inches in future.

Some of us don't care how some people earning more in a week than some people do in a year decide to run their lifestyle.

Hi Dave and everybody.
Yes, I do believe it was a significant day for Britain when David Beckham announced his retirement. In recent years it has become a great ambassador for our country and (outside of football) he played a huge part in bringing the Olympic Games to London.

As a lifelong football fan and ManU supporter I do not believe he was the greatest British football player brought forward by his generation, that accolade I feel may well lie with Lampard or Gerard or even perhaps Gary Neville. However, we will always remember those Beckham long through passes delivered with such accuracy that it often gave others and opportunity to score. Then of course there was the never to be forgotten Beckham corners and freekicks which always brought in that swerving ball which so often finished in the top of the net (Bend It like Beckham)

I did think it was also significant that David Beckham announced his on the field retirement only two days after BT announced that it would be screening 18 Premier league matches commencing in August and therefore breaking Sky's practical monopoly on television screening of the premiership. Could it be that David Beckham will become the studio anchorman much in the line of Gary Lineker, which may well take him into a new career as sports pundit.

Anyway, many thanks to David Beckham, who has given us football fans so much to cheer about on the pitch and the times a few things to cry about.
