Hi Len

No, I'm running Windows 7 (after some thought, I felt I could not face Windows 8!) I think you're right, I checked, and TRIM was turned on, so it possibly it was the Win Experience that set it, I don't recall doing anything in the initial setup to turn it on (though that was all of 6 weeks ago!) I also came across a Windows 7 post where somebody else had the same problem I found, ie windows said it had just defragged the SSD. There didn't seem to be any resolution but it appears to be 'normal'. Yes - confused!

I think Microsoft should make it a bit clearer that a user should run the win experience to optimise their hard drive/system - there must be many users who haven't even heard of it

Windows can do my head in. Yesterday I came across another funny, using Windows Movie Maker. Most video editors I know let you choose the dimensions of the finished file, in most cases just letting you enter the width and height dimensions, just before saving the finished movie. With Movie Maker, you have to create a custom setting AND save it first, and it won't let you save it anywhere you want (eg in the folder where you keep your movie files), it has to be in the default location, which is C>>users>>myname blah blah ... What imbecile at Microsoft thought this would be helpful?

However, found a Microsoft article explaining that although Windows 7 does not show SSD's in the defrag list if they are detected, Windows 8 does. It goes on to explain that a Windows 8 SSD defrag is not a traditional defrag but a special routine for optimising SSD's. Confused? Join the club. :D

Sounds like M$ "BullShine" for sloppy programming to me?

It's interesting that one of the leading makers of Flight Sim Boxes is offering Win7 64 bit still (with an option for Win8) because all the rest seem to automatically jump at the latest OS "like it or not".
SSD's aside drivers, especially for older but perfectly functional kit, has always been a problem with newer OS's.
