If you want to check your graphics card, you could install gpuz from http://www.cpuid.com/downloads/cpu-z/1.64-setup-en.exe. This will show you your graphics card temperature and fan speed, amongst other things. Run it in the background whilst running other programs and you'll be able to see their affect on temperature/fan speed etc and see if your card is overheating.

I have both GPU-Z and OpenHardwareMonitor and prefer the latter. It monitors both the GPU and the rest of the computer and it also allows a "write to file" option so you can look at the changes over time as you run various software.
