We're all waiting for the drama to unfold as to whether you managed to find that all important drink!

Apart from that a great set of photos, illustrating both scenery and history aa well as providing good exercise.

Thanks, Alec

Thank you Ash and Alec and Mark
I'm pleased that this thread has proved enjoyable to UKTS members
Final hurdle towards New Mills and a well deserved drink :D
Looking back towards Higgins Clough Swing Bridge

Another charming cottage at Disley

Just a little further the canal becomes overlooked by houses

Bridge no 26 "Dryhurst Bridge"

Now looking straight across the valley you will notice the railway line to New Mills Whalley Bridge and Buxton

Approaching journeys end "New Mills"
There is a lovely smell of sweets at this point which is from Matlows the makers of Swizzles
My mind though was on that nice cold drink :D

Looking back at Bridge No27 "Green's Hall Bridge"

At New Mills there is a boat yard and marina

I now bid a fond farewell to the Peak Forest Canal and made my way to a shop in search of a drink

Looking back towards the canal which is behind the trees

I purchased a 1.5 litre bottle of ice cold water from a local newsagent and supped the lot......ah that's better! :D
Following a short rest I arrived at New Mills Newtown Railway Station for the train home

All in all a very enjoyable day
Marple is only a 20 minute train journey from Manchester Piccadilly
Kind regards Stephen

Ah, those swing bridges. I remember I was walking between the two and managed to drop my windlass in the canal!

Luckily after a bit of fishing I managed to retrieve it and open the next bridge :)

Good morning everyone
Yesterday I caught the 10:52 Buxton service to New Mills Newtown to continue the walk along The Peak Forest Canal
The weather was perfect and this time I made sure I'd packed a drink in my haversack :D
The train service to Buxton was formed by a Class 156 here it is at Manchester Piccadilly

Arrival at New Mills Newtown Station approximately 30 Minutes later

After a short break for some lunch I arrived on the tow path
Matlows sweet factory who manufacture an assortment of sweets incl Swizzles can be seen in the distance (Mill Chimney)
The smell from the factory can be detected for a considerable distance

There are quite a number of boats moored up at New Mills Marina on this stretch of canal

Continuing the walk towards Furness Vale and my destination of Buxworth and Whaley Bridge

Looking back towards New Mills

This is the entrance to Torrs Riverside Park

Looking across the valley you may just notice in this photograph an East Midlands Class 158 in the distance

The railway crosses the Goyt Valley via this lovely stone viaduct

Further along the canal is a second entrance to Torrs Riverside Park

Bank End Bridge No 29

Continuing on towards Furness Vale
Looking back towards Bridge No 29 Bank End Bridge

Heading now towards Furness Vale and Buxworth Basin and Whaley Bridge

Approaching Bridge No 30 Carr Bridge

There are a number of mooring points along this stretch of The Peak Forest Canal

Looking back towards New Mills

Sorry for the delay in adding more photos
I hadn't realized my latest set had been approved

Continuing on towards Buxworth and Whaley Bridge
Here we are approaching Furness Vale
This is Furness Bridge No 31

This is a biscuit tin photo of which there are several in this thread :D
Looking back towards New Mills

This is an interesting photo
An LMS branded barge....shame part of it is obscured by the tyres
Note:in the background the railway track ballast can be seen

Looking back again towards New Mills

Further along the tow path I came across this sunken barge

Continuing along our journey and approaching Bridge No 33 Greensdeep Bridge

There were quite a number of boats on tour on such a bright sunny day

This is an interesting barge and with a name like Slicer 2, it definitely appeared to be made up of two barges spliced together

Hi Stephen,

Excellent pictures there, thanks for sharing, what sort of camera are you using? ( Not that I know much about cameras) they look very professional.

regards,

Dave

Glad you like the photographs Dave
My camera is a Kodak Easyshare compact digital camera
I've had it for about 4 Years now and it's been flogged hard :D

Continuing along The Peak Forest Canal
This is a biscuit tin shot

Approaching a foot bridge No 34

The foot bridge as you can see by the sign takes you to The Dog and Partridge pub
I resisted the call of a nice cold beer and decided to press on

Now approaching Bridge No 35
The view passing beneath Bridge No 35

Now Buxworth comes in to sight just beyond the bridge ahead Bridge No36
Buxworth is actually known as Bugsworth, however being as the name wasn't well liked the area became better known as Buxworth

As you can see by the signs the canal diverges here
I decided to walk first to Buxworth Basin (bearing left) and then double back and then head to Whaley Bridge
