Good morning everyone
I have BT fibre optic broadband which usually runs like a charm
However this morning it is painfully slow
I wonder if others have noticed a poorer service now the Olympics are in town?

I don't know the reason ... but I've found it slow the last few days.
Even after being upgraded from 10Mbs-20 Mbs.
I suppose it could be lots of people watching the Olympics on their PCs.... or maybe its the security services monitoring everything.

I have been trying to download an attachment in my e mail
The file is only 800MB and yet the download status is stuck at 1% and has been now for several minutes
The estimated time to download reads 30 Minutes
Usually a file of that size downloads in seconds

Well if you were on NTL (Virgin) you could only attach files of upto 8Mb.
Been that way for 10 years ... and never increased.

My mistake the file size is 800 Kb
Still struggling to download though
If this attempt fails I will try again later today
One thing that BT do is scan e mail with Norton and sometimes depending on the file type they won't allow it to be downloaded

Based on my experience Norton gets itself in a right old "paddy" over any downloaded "exe" file, especially if it can't find similar files in it's data base!

My system has been painfully slow just recently, but, I've read that there are a few adware viruses kicking about, servads and ilitili being the 2 recent ones causing a lot of frustration, I didn't consider the Olympics to be a factor.

I'm on BT Infinity and currently downloading at 65 Mbit per second which is about 7.8Megabytes a second, so no different than normal for me. I think most people in the UK who are serious Olympic followers have probably got SKY, there are 24 HD channels dedicated to the Olmpics all supplied by the BBC.

I carry out regular checks for malware using "Malware Bytes" which is excellent
I notice several journalists have commented about networks struggling to cope with the additional traffic
Just picking up on Alecs comment one file BT or rather Norton doesn't like are RPK files
Luckily there is a work around when dealing with these

I hope the Olympics are inspiring young people. Once I was a South Yorkshire 400m champion, and a Sheffield schools decathlon champion. Now I am a heavy drinker/smoker that could not run for a bus if it had a bar and a tobacconist on-board.
