Andy Murray showed incredible resolve to get the better of Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and become the first British man in 74 years to reach the Wimbledon final.
Off to get my Strawberries and Guinness for Sunday :drinking:

A well-deserved victory, after a great match. I enjoyed some spectacular rallies, shame Tsonga's somewhat "excentric" talent only shone occasionally.

The spectators behaved exemplarily, in my humble opinion.

Ditto, :)
Every year we get all the Murray hype, Ad nauseum, and every year he loses. No doubt it'll be "normal service" :o this time around also.

Hi
I believe this is the first time in 75 years a male Brit has reached the final ..... so thats something in itself.
I like motor sports ..... but F1 just leaves me cold .... I'd rather watch cricket ....

Cheers
Jon

Good luck to him, he'll need it, I have no interest in tennis so won't be watching.

Hi

If we'd done as well in the football (euro) .... everyone would have been 'cook a hoop' ....
So far this year is just good training ..... towards our poor performances in the Olympics.

Cheers

I am currently off work at the moment with a heavy cold/flu, and decided to have a good read of the forums and came across this.

I thought to myself this looks like a potentially uplifting thread, praising further fine efforts by a UK sportsman.

But no, to all intents and purposes this has been very depressing, and confirms the idea that we are never happier than when we are running other people's efforts down - of course this is not unknown among the UKTS community!

We should be proud that we have at last got someone through to the Wimbledon men's final; and where we should be unhappy and directing our spleen is the inability to create a decent group of tennis players. If we were to have a champion perhaps that might be the fillip to generating a new set of players - of course poor facilities and total lack of interest at school says it won't happen.

With the right drive and ambition we can achieve greater success - look at rowing and cycling as prime examples of what can be achieved.

My head is really aching again now, so I'll close.

Alec

No comments about the fact that we do have a British Wimbledon champion this year then which is a shame!

It does seem sometimes that if you're not a "media darling" then any success you have goes un-noticed.

Congratulations to Mr Marray on his success.

Well I am not sure about congratulations to Andrew Murray. :-?
My Grandfather always advised against putting money on an outsider, bound to lose you see.
So it really is congratulations to Roger Federer, thank you very much, rubs hands vigorously.

However
In 2012 at Wimbledon he stunned the tennis world as he and his doubles partner, Frederik Nielsen, won a wildcard entry into Wimbledon 2012 and won the final in five sets, beating the much favoured fifth seeds, Robert Lindstedt and Horia Tecau.

So it really is congratulations to Mr Marray

Grandfather never bet on two horses in the same race, `But if you fancy a flutter on a second horse` Saying with eyes raised, `Make sure the second horse isn`t a donkey!!`
But I must confess long odds can occasional win.
Why do losers always create such euphoria in the British.
Quote: `Former Wimbledon semi-finalist Tim Henman thinks Andy Murray will defeat Roger Federer to become the first Briton to win the men's singles.` and this is from one of the all time great losers.
Obviously the man cannot spot talent when he sees it.
