Re: Higgs-Bosun ????
Here in Scotland we are making our own Hadron Collider.
It involves installing magnets on the Glasgow subway and re-gearing a clockwork orange.
I tried simulating it but you can't do circles in MSTS.

Re: Higgs-Bosun ????
I always wondered why they didn't build a small Haldron Collider first to see if it worked ?

That's not the way technology stuff worksoldrocker wrote:I always wondered why they didn't build a small Haldron Collider first to see if it worked ?
The first computers were the size of a small house. Now there is more computing power in a tiny MP3 player that sits in the palm of your hand.
Besides scientist types like big toys to play with.

Re: Higgs-Bosun ????
They have built many particle accelerators, the Large Haldron Collider is just a bigger version of these, so the technology was already in place when it was built, the only difference is the scale.oldrocker wrote:I always wondered why they didn't build a small Haldron Collider first to see if it worked ?

I wonder what would happen if we smashed two electro-stars together! Perhaps we all live within an LHC. It was the big bang.

Re: Higgs-Bosun ????
They tried this a year or two back and there was concern that world was going to end if the particles appeared.

Re: Higgs-Bosun ????
I had a pasty for lunch - or was it an antipasti? No - wait, antipasti's something entirely different, involving no pastry (or antipastry) or brown sauce. The last antipasti I ate had squid, capers, prawns, etc; as its constituent ingredients and as I recall the recipe was handed down from my great antiflo.

I understand that copious sums of money are to be spent upgrading the collider in order to try and create/find some antimatter!
