When I install essenshalls it doesn't install mail, how do I install windows live mail?

Live mail is included with Windows Live Essentials.

I have installed the full pack but it only installed, parental controls and writer.

Light the blue touch paper and retire to a safe distance.

I seem to remember that there are options along the way of getting and installing Essentials as to which programs you install, so I expect you haven't selected it at the right point.

However, why do you want WLM? There are much better ways of dealing with email around... Google Mail (web based, but with lots of flexibility) is one, Mozilla Thunderbird is another (PC based, but can use IMAP, including IIRC reading Google Mail).

There is no tickbox next to windws live mail, It appears to be in program files but has no shortcuts/links to open it.

Then just create a short-cut, I have it pinned to the tool bar and it's also in the start menu.

It is not in the start menu.

Navigate to the program's folder, using Windows Explorer. Find the exe file, then create a shortcut from there...
