At a depth of 35,800feet - or in excess of 6 miles - I would have thought that was more than adequate COVERAGE! Boom! Boom!oldrocker wrote:Is it just me or has this not got the coverage it deserves?

Re: Deep Sea
Absolutely right, having worked in miniature submarines I understand what was involved here and its an amazing event, but science is always ignored by the media, they prefer "the arts" or "celebrity".oldrocker wrote:Is it just me or has this not got the coverage it deserves?

Re: Deep Sea
Well in all fairness he's making a programme about it so I guess he's understandably shy about releasing too much about it now? I have to say that if other programmes about deep ocean depths are anything to go by I'm not holding my breath for any stunning scenes or wildlife. A great achievement I guess but not sure what it brings us?
I still remember the wonder of the first BW TV stuff by http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hans_Hass and the woonderful series by http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jacques_Cousteau and I guess that although they are the big names they opened our eyes to a world that many don't see for themselves and gave us all a taste for the many other excellent diving and sea life series.
The technical achievment is obvious but perhaps not easy to explain visually? The trouble with the depths of the ocean is that they are just so dark so the scope of what will be visible is obviously limited? much as dive programmes in murky water with low visibility?
Still as the guy's a film maker hopefully when we do get to see it he'll use his skills in that area to make it as interesting as possible.

BTW forgot to mention that the web site is well designed, if (at the moment) a little like an extended trailer for the programme when it's released?oldrocker wrote:Is it just me or has this not got the coverage it deserves?
