Just added a few more Lots and the Game is becoming worse as it takes data off the C Drive. It doesn't seem to matter how high or low the settings are. If this Caviar Black is faster than my old Generic one then why does it take longer to get the Data off it ? Both Drives where the same size. If The Sims puts all the Data in the memory which it did on my old Machine with 4 Gigs then the stuttering cannot occur. It even stops typing when I am doing this and only when the HD runs and then all the words appear at once. It should not take 5 seconds before the letters start to appear. This Computer must be a Dud or Lemon. Given up. :(
Kind regards James.

The computers duff, the drives are broken, the games not written to run on new machines, the computers fine, the memorys now duff, the drive is OK now........etc.

I'd suggest you stop guessing and speculating and get it looked at as all you're getting here are generic tips, nobody is now 100% sure of how the machines set up---Kromaatikse wondered about AHCI/IDE modes for example.

Have just followed some instructions to use msconfig to check the Advance Boot box Max Memory which is supposed to increase the Memory use. It made the computer run more slowly and I have unticked the box and set it back to full start up but the whole machine is now running slow. Help. I cannot restore it because there are no restore points available. I have no idea how to check the other things.
Kind regards James.

The Sims 3 now running slow again. Hard Disk activity is high and it is not using the memory since I made then corrected the alteration listed previously. Programs running on the SSD seems ok.
Machine is now slower when starting. What have I damaged by making the Boot alteration and then going back to normal startup?
Just do not understand how this has happened. The Hard Drive Temperature is running higher to.
Kind regards James.

msconfig is a diagnostic tool, to aid in pinpointing a problematical area, not something to dive into and mess about with if you arent conversant with how to get the PC back to how it was.

I wouldn't be surprised if you find you're going to need a new install of Windows and system drivers.

(Incidentally, in msconfig the Advanced BOOT tab just deals with boot time, settings changed there affect ony the boot process, not how the machine runs post-boot)

Hi and thanks for your post. I have not got enough download allowance left now to re-install Windows and all the other Programs.
Just puzzled why it is now running slow even after I put the stuff in MSConfig back to normal and why it is affecting the whole Machine after Boot. It now seems that the Memory is not being used as the HD is being read virtually all the time.

I didn't particularly mean YOU had to do it, and as you wouldn't have to download Windows anway your allowance doesn't come into it. You only need to backup/archive/copy your programs/data too---no downloading needed there.
Who is your ISP?... even the most restricted contracts I've seen should give you enough allowance that you dont have to consider worrying bout it.

msconfig makes changes to the registry, improper use of it may lead to reversal of any changes not being successfully written back.

Thanks. It was Perfect Disk causing the System Restore Points being wiped. It is a known problem so unless they can fix it I am going to ask for my money back. I have used most of my allowance re-installing the Sims 3 4 times as it is all on Download apart for the Base Game.
Kind regards James.

backup, backup, and backup...the Holy Trinity of IT. At its simplest just means burning stuff to DVD so you dont have to download again and again.

If it's a known problem with Perfect Disc why have you installed it?---Restore points disappearingisn't something that will slow your machine down anyway so you're unlikely to have any joy persuing that line.

You're out of your depth James I'm afaraid and run the risk of making things worse so just get the PC looked over, Scan(?) would surely do that for at most a nominal fee.

Hi I did not know about the Perfect Disk problem before I installed it. The Computer has been reset and a Clean install of Windows has been done. I am installing nothing except essentials. PC Specialist did a remote connection to install all the correct Drivers and check everything was OK. They have said that The Sims 3 has major issues with performance machines and the higher end GPU's which seems to be correct as CaptScarlet has said and also from evidence on the WWW So I will not be installing the Program at all. A Memory Check was done and the WD Lifeguard utility has done an extended check of the Hard Drive and it has passed. I have a trust problem with Computers due to may last Machine so I will have to see how it goes from here. I intend to set the Power Option to Performance The Bios is set to Normal the middle of the 3 Rectangles.
Thanks again for your help.
Kind regards James.

Hi,
The latest in the sorry Saga. EA just keep sending the stock solutions and do not seem to be reading my posts properly so I have asked for the information to be sent to someone higher up the Technical Ladder. It is obvious that the Game does not like something that has changed on this new Machine when compared with my old Machine. This would be a logical approach I think.
Kind regards James.
