Well I was not sure what to call it
I have a long standing friendship with lots of forum members and I have always said to them I have an open door to any of them should they want to stay. I have had the Candlewick Man Stephen Holmes to stay for week.
We ended up doing all sorts of things from train spotting to morseing. Me & my good lady have enjoyed his company.
I would also like to add Stephen and myself were at Oxford railway station to today waiting for his train. And by a million to 1 chance we met Foggy Morning. Steve thank you so much for saying hi
Regards
John

An amazing chance meeting although Trainsimmers are probably quite easy to recognise if you know what to look for

I've met some cool people on here, and have had the opportunity to meet a couple of them in person. Technically met one through MM2 but he does have a UKTS account (not a regular poster here though), and he's stayed over at mine many times.

Like the second birthday thread I hadn't seen this one either, and it was pleasing to hear that via the forums some socialising has developed.
I have always been a little saddened that economics has severely curtailed the UKTS Live Shows both in their attendance at events and mine, and the brief direct personal contact. Contact through these forums does not always give a true picture of ourselves; we are often surprised how our mental image does not match the real image!
I don't attend a lot of railway shows or visit preserved lines or relive my youth at the end of a platform and most of my current railway interest is "virtual". However I do remember reading a thread that referred to a get together of simmers some time ago, and had always thought that that would be worthwhile trip but as mentioned above financial restraints tend to rule OK!
Alec
PS Perhaps we should all wear something that refers to UKTS when visiting railway related events!

Hi Alec
I do agree with what you say about finances. I have always had an open door for any of my friends.
Stephen got a cheep return ticket and came down and did a bit of train spotting at Didcot a spot of Morse hunting in Oxford and at the end of his week a trip to Steam museum in Swindon and what is left of the works were I used to work.
I have been lucky to meet a lot of train simmers if that’s the right word over the years. After my stroke in 2007 the hobby became more important for me and so did my open door
Regards
John
