USB Memory Stick and opening Documents

I wonder if anyone could help me please over two problems I've had since installing Windows 7 (64-bit).

My PC will not "acknowledge" my memory stick when I plug it in. I tried putting it (MS) in tonight before it(PC) had booted up fully and my PC promptly went into a repair mode, eventually with a message suggesting removing anything I had just put in, like a camera, say.

I am unable to read email attachments (or any other docs.) written in Word format. Do I need Wordpad? If so, can anyone recommend a reliable website from which I can download?

Many thanks
David W.

The MS Word viewer avaiable from a link on this page: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/891090 might be what you need.

Again, sounds worth a shot. I'll look at that as well and see what looks best.

Thanks, Phil.

Good evening
Here's another vote for Open office
It really is a decent suite of software.....I wouldn't be without it
Kind regards Stephen
