Computer Hijack and Google?

Post by stephenholmes »

Good afternoon everyone
I have just experienced a worrying event with my computer
I was doing an internet search using Google looking at vendors of mens trousers
One website google threw up was a UK website by the name of Peacocks
I clicked on the link to the supposed site and my computer locked up and I heard a distinct bleep
I tried using Cntrl Alt and Delete to bring up the task manager in a bid to gain control
Eventually the computer un froze however I am now running my AV software and will double check using Malware Bytes
Has anyone else experienced this?
I havn't rebooted my pc and won't do until I have run all my security software
Kind regards Stephen

It appears there's a virus out there that disables Windows Security Center, and also redirects Google results to dodgy webpages. One way round it is not to click a link on Google, but copy/paste it instead.

The main antivirus softwares didn't pick it up, the only way I got rid of it was to download and run Microsoft's own 'Support Emergency Response Tool' which found and removed it successfully.
