Mine must have been an A8 hauled service from Hull to Hornsea.

Most likely a NSE/WAGN Prism liveried 317 for me, if not then some steam loco at some preserved railway, possibly even the Romney Hythe & Dymchurch Railway, but I was far to young to remember.

Probably a 4VEP or similar. It would have been in either Blue-Grey or NSE livery. I would only have been 1 or 2 at the time.
The first steam haulage I had was at around the age of 4 or 5 behind the T9 when it was at the Mid-Hants.

Good afternoon everyone
One of the first were the Class 506 Units
These operated on the Manchester Piccadilly to Hadfield Service on the Woodhead route
Kind regards Stephen

A very good question!
Hmm... The earliest I could possibly think of, may have been various 142's or 156's from Rainhill/Thatto Heath into Liverpool Lime Street, and 508's from Liverpool to Southport in the early 90's. I would say also, that's where my interest in railways started...

Hi
Like Stephen it would have been over the Woodhead .... going to Blackpool (1962) .... proberbly EM2 hauled.
Earliest I can remember is Doncaster to Newark (1965) .... which must have been a Class 47 as I remember thinking its windows looked purple as it came into the station.
First cab was D211 at Cleethorpes (1967), I was looking in at eye level, when the driver/ 2nd man jumped down and lifted me in.
I remember it looked dark and smelly to me, and I was glad when he lifted me down.
First Steam train was K&WVR in 1972 .... don't remember the engine, but Evening Star was in a shed.
Cheers
Jon

In the mid 1920s I travelled on two trains – which was first I do not know!
The Tutbury Jenny was a Midland railway push-pull service normally of a Johnson 0-4-4T and two coaches the outer one a driving trailer. After the LMS absorbed the Midland the train ran without any changes for many years. It took us from Burton to Tutbury.
The other train would have been from Burton-upon-Trent to Ashby-de-la-Zouch. (can't resist putting those names in full) . I do not know what its composition would have been but the full run was to Leicester. Again it would basically have been a Midland Railway train.
I also travelled at that time on the Burton and Ashby Light Railway, a combination of street running tramway and "across the fields" route worked by standard gauge double deck electric trams. This was actually owned bythe Midland Railway although it was in direct competition to the Midland standard gauge route, part of the line between Burton and Leicester.
Though not directly relevant to the thread, my most positive memory is of the return journey from Plymouth to Burton in summer, probably 1935. The train was crowded and we had two locos at the front plus three 0-6-0 Jinty bankers at the rear to get up the Lickey. We were disappointed that we didn't get Big Bertha.

Most likely a BR Blue / Grey 411, 421 or 423 (I think those were the ones at the time going through Folkestone West - around 1984 - 8 about the time when I first traveled on a train - I was a baby / toddler at the time though!) (or even a Class 47 with Mk2s - same livery). My first memory would be the same trains but in Network South East livery! (toothpaste)

I have absolutely no idea !
Having said that, my earliest recollection is traveling with a Prairie (I assume) + 2 or 3 from Birmingham Snow Hill to Dudley.
I remember it because it must have been suburban stock and my Dad slammed the door shut with the leather strap while my fingers were still in the frame !

First recorded haulage is D1049 on 6 April 1975 Taunton to Reading .
But I'm sure I've been on a steam train from Dundee West station just before it closed.

To be honest I can't actually remember, it would have either been a class 47 hauled service or a DMU maybe class 115 or 117, somthing like that.

Hi. Mine was a very long time ago.
It was big and green and went "dummer,dummer-dummer,dummer, dummer-dummer-dummer,dummer" while stopped at each station.
Must have been electric.
The year was 1943, still wartime, when my mother took me and her new twin babies from Croydon to Gravesend, visiting her mother.
I remember lots of soldiers at Victoria and smoke and steam billowing high into the roof.

One of my earliest recollections is a unit from Thetford-Norwich which was before Central Trains started i believe they were Regional Railways liveried units. (think it might of been a 158)

As a kid with my mother on a steam train.
(Maaseik to Hasselt)
In 1971 from Hasselt to Spich (Germany) also a steam train.
Train was called "DVT" or Duitse Veetrein > "German Cattle Train"
I was in service in those day.
