Hi
I've recently beeen trying to install a version of .Netframework from microsofts website. But every time I try and download I get IE saying "Internet explorer cannot display the webpage". This is for all versions. My OS is Vista and I have virgin media security.
I can't see what can be causing it. I have tried IE's diagnostic check but it says it can't find the problem.
As anyone got any ideas or a way around it. (ideally i want .netframework 4 standalone installer). Even if it's just a relevent e-mail for microsoft because I can't make sense of the CS area
Hope you can help
Mark

Don't know why you're having trouble, but try this:
http://download.microsoft.com/download/ ... 86_x64.exe. It worked OK when I just tried it.

Thanks Paul
Just followed the link, went straight to the same sceen (very fast like it wasn't really trying), so I just re did the diagnostic and came up with this
"Cannot communicate with Primary DNS server(93.188.163.166) (which I assume is the IP for it)
Network Diagnostic pinged the remote host but did not recieve a response"
I'm not that big on computers but it sounds like a microsoft problem :/

Hmm, looks like you might have something set up incorrectly at your end. The DNS server 93.188.163.166 resolves to ukrtelegroup.com.ua which is in the Ukraine, which doesn't sound right at all (either for your ISP's DNS server, or for anything Microsoft).
Your best bet might be to call your ISP and have them go through your settings with you to make sure everything is as it should be.

Would it work if I installed it from another computer. I have FS 2004 on an external HHD, which is why I want to get .NF working, or does it need to be on the same HDD as the OS?
Thanks for the advice Paul

That download is standalone (and for both 32 and 64 bit machines), so you can download it from another machine, then just install it on the one you're having trouble with.

HI,
One of the moderators thinks you may have some sort of trojan which has set your DNS server to a rogue DNS server which has been blocked now and hence why some sites are not working as you may not have a functioning DNS server available.
I strongly recommend updating your AntiVirus. Running a full scan and also installing and running MalwareBytes. This might be difficult with limited internet access and helping you might be a little beyond what even the UKTS trains sim forum!!

Take a look at this technical article:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/usin ... ipdns.mspx
My guess is that something has set your PC to use a specific DNS server...the one you quoted.
If you get to this property box, you want to have the settings as the diagram in step 4.
If they're not, change them to match, then reboot. Check again...and if they've changed back, you may have to get professional help to rid your PC of the nasty doing the changes. If they're okay....you may be lucky...and back to normal operation.
