Sincere Condolences to the folk in Christchurch

Post by lateagain »

Well there isn't much GOOD news at the moment but waking up to this this morning was very sad.

Deepest sympathy to anyone who's lost family and friends and a swift recovery for those who are injured.

geoff

PS sorry about name mix up. Thinking about friends in the other city

Coming so soon after the last major earthquake in the area last September, it is even more tragical.

We are indeed fortunate that here in UK we are spared major earth-tremors and their horrendous results.

Bazza lives in the very south of South Island....so he's not near the area affected.

And like posters so far, my thoughts are with those who have been affected by this awful tragedy.

Thank you for the kind thoughts....I've been glued to the telly for the last two days. It's very grim, with loss of life at 75 and climbing. Two city buses were flattened and there were no survivors. The search continues in the CBD, for people known to be trapped in up to ten buildings. The largest hotel in the city is on the point of falling over; if so it could be potentially like a bomb going off. The whole CBD is cordoned off and only rescue and associated services are allowed in.

I have no family involved, but some people I know live there, I just hope they are okay.

Cheers Bazza

Hi Baz, and I endorse all the good wishes/condolences above.

My boss's son is on a gap year and has recently arrived in NZ. They had hired a camper van to be picked up from . . guess where? Yes, Christchurch !

So don't know what the plan is now. Going as far south as he can I understand.

BTW, what's a CBD?

A CBD is the Central Business District of the city.
In Christchurch Its the very central city blocks about a mile square.

I would like to send my condolences to the people of New Zealand. Any natural disaster is a tragedy and some areas are more prone than others. It is still a major shock however when something like this happens. New Zealand is a beautiful Country with stunning scenery and welcoming people. My thoughts are with the Families and Friends of people who have lost their lives.
Kind regards James.
