Wierd Problem with my Desktop

Hi folks,

Since Friday morning I have been unable to use my Desktop due to a rather strange problem, it loads up (windows 7) perfectly well until the TSRs start up, I've removed some of the non-essential appliations but to no avail.

What is the problem you ask, well you would if you had the chance ;)

Basically after just about a minute the screen starts showing green and red dots in random places on whatever screen is up at the time and the whole computer freezes up, disconnecting from the network and not accepting any input from the mouse of keyboard. The only way fo getting past this is to do a soft reboot at which point I get asked if I want to load into Safe mode, which doesn't have to problem, but, I can not run any programmes, such as Train Sim or Railworks, not so good. I have installed the latest drivers for my graphics card to no avail, and tried back dating the graphics drivers also to no avail. I run Aero on my desktop and thought of trying to switch that off, but I just can't get to the appropriate screen before the dots appear, and as far as I'm aware it can not be altered from Safe mode.

Any help would be much appreciated.

PS this has been typed on my laptop that isn't good enough to run Railworks.

Hi,

How old is your graphics card? It sounds as if it might be on it's way out. Unless anybody can suggest anything else.

with regards,

Dave.

You're not alone.......

... seems to be a similar situation. May be worth trying re-seating the graphics card and monitor cable.

Cheers

From the info you've given, id assume it could be the GPU (Graphics Card). If you are a tad tech-savy you can try reseting the card, but it would be good to know which one your using too. Easiest way to find out is to go into your Device Manager (Right-click Computer and hit Manage) then its under Display Adapters.
