Nice Revenue and Customs

Post by Tonysmedley »

The staff at “Revenue and Customs“ really ought to have lessons in good English writing!
Just look at this missive which they have sent to me. I am not bothering to reply; it has already gone into my Spam can!.
P.S. Wasn’t it nice of them to offer me their Best Regards?

Hi

As Bob says, this is a scam and H M Revenue & Customs never communicate in this way.

http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/security/index.htm

Under no circumstances reply to anything like this it could cost you a lot of money.

In general, H M Revenue & Customs are all for us communicating information to them electronically but at the moment it is not usually possible to communicate with them by e-mail. Phone or letter is preferred method.

The dodgy grammar should alert you to the fact that this is not genuine, much like the scam bank notifications that are not put together very well.

Yes very true. But how many people can recognise bad grammar these days?
You only need to look at many of the post's on these Forums.

Good luck

I suppose it was inevitable that a post criticising bad grammar in posts here should contain bad grammar!

Indeed, but I can assure you that some younger people have been fooled into thinking this particular scam is genuine :o

It is of course and sadly, that a lot of people are fooled by these scams.
However I find it hard to be sympathetic to people who have been motivated by greed.

In brief, I love the Nigerian scam where someone lost whatever thousands of pounds and then, about two months later, got a email from some Nigerian 'solicitors' saying they were on the case and for whatever thousands of pounds could recover the original sum lost.

So, the swindled person contacted them . . . I'll leave you to fill in the rest !

The Nigerian one must have been going for at least 30 years. I used to get stencil printed letters in those early days and the spelling was just as bad then.

You will know when you get a request from the Revenue & Customs, it will come through your door like a piece of rotting fruit wrapped around a very large brick.
