On the strength of reading this topic way back I got this game for my recent birthday and I quite enjoy it albeit it can be a bit frustrating at times. Anyway not sure if this is the place to ask questions but here goes.
I take it that winning is not purely down to my ability (or lack of it) to get the car round the track but is also a function of the car you choose to race with. E.g. currently as a player I chose Williams and I've never started better than 24th and never finished better than 23rd! But if I play Grand Prix as say Jensen Button I can start (default) as 3 or 4 and finish not far off that being able to catch up and pass other cars following a bit of off-roading.
So is there some performance factored into the cars themselves - makes sense that there is I guess?
Also when doing practice and qualifying rounds the voice often says things like "Rubens is doing better than you shall we see if we can copy his set-up" but as yet I've not seen how to find that info. Is it possible to find it- if so where?
Lastly for the time being I've not gone off "easy" but I guess if I were skilled enough to manually do the gears/brakes etc I could actually do better.

From my experience; turning automatic braking off improved my performance no end.
I was in the middle of my first season of career mode with Williams last time I fired it up and had won a couple of races.

Copying the team mates set up was a feature taken out just before release, ignore him.
Have a look online for specific track set ups, you'll easily shave 3 or 4 seconds off your time with these. Find braking points for each corner, so start practise by getting used to the track, then get faster and faster, see how long you can leave it til you need to brake, find the apex and get your foot back on the power ASAP.
Also buy a steering wheel and pedals for your console, that'll knock some more time off once you get used to it.

Re: F1 2010 The Video Game
Thanks,
Had a go last night with brake control off running on "TimeTrial" mode so's to avoid other traffic. Several Black flags later I think I've almost got the hang of the theory. Unfortunately having run for so long in auto mode where there is no need to take your finger off the throttle it does take some getting used to.
Agree that the steering wheel and peddles looks a good idea but it's probably, for me, taking it a bit too far.
