Hollow primtivies

I'm trying to create a passenger view, an extremely, basic passenger view. Say I have a reasonably sized cuboid. How do I make it hollow please? Thanks.

Select all the outside faces and use the "Double Side" plugin. Then you'll be able to see the insides of the faces.
One problem, though.....there's a bug in later software releases where the inside faces cannot be selected. See here:

Thanks. These plug-ins sure make the program easy to use, ish.

I think that that problem has been fixed in 7.1.2.0. If not, I've found lately that I get better looking interiors if I double-side, select everything then unselect the outside and do a face-split. The interior becomes a separate object. I can also just clone the object and invert one copy then usually scale it down fractionally.

Thanks wmalder. How then do I get the effect of seeing the outside from the inside, eg in a standard MSTS passenger view?

A check of the MSTS documents on the disk explains how to set up a passenger view. In essence you define a viewpoint and range of view in the .wag/.eng view and define a shape file to use for the interior view. It can be the same shape file as your model or you can build up an entirely different model of just the inside with as much detail as the sim will allow and view the world through that.

2 questions and again thanks wmalder:
1) Disk?
2) Can I just build a hollowed-out cube in 3DC using the above plug-in and go from there? Basically all I need are some windows, carriage doors and seats. I have the basic plans so I just need to know what to do next.
Many thanks.

On the MSTS CD 2 is a TechDocs folder with info on modding MSTS
I wouldn't think of it as a hollowed out cube, more like an inverted cube with no outside.
Just make a cube about the right size, select the object and press the invert operation button.
Add seat models, texture and export
The other thing to do is look at existing models with passenger views - the GWR diesel railcar on UKTS is a good example.
Or one of the original MSTS coaches - open up the passenger view models with the shape viewer.

The reference for MSTS is on one of the original discs. You'd be looking for the one that tells how to configure eng/wag files. It has all the definitions for the terms defined in those files.
And, Yes, the double side plugin will give you a box that you can put your interior in. If you're using a separately modeled interior you don't even need to double-side the box - just invert your primitive so the outside is now on the inside.
edit: and I see Paul has beaten me to it with a better explanation

Thanks Paul and wmalder.
One more question. One of the options in the TrainSim Wizard is to make a passengar car. Then there's a tick box to have the car have a passenger view. Then, in the part selection screen, it asks you to identify the placeholder for the passenger view?? This has been consistently baffling me. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
