Joing parts or keeping them seperate for texturing?

Users of the Amabilis product 3D Canvas, that has now had to change its name to 3D Crafter can find continuing discussions here.

Joing parts or keeping them seperate for texturing?

Post by Schmalspur »

Is it better to have certain parts seperate for texturing or joining them all together and texturing using the faces?

Thanks for any help,

Regards, Jack

Hi Jack

I find if you have a really complex model its best to texture them whilst they are still separate and then join. That way you know everything has been textured. Hope that helps.

If separate objects are in the same 3DC group, on export they effectively are joined in a single "primitive" so there is never a real need to join them in 3DC.

Thanks guys, is it possible to move all the parts in a 3DC group together?

Thanks, Jack

Jack

I'm confused as to what you mean by "move".

Highlighting any one part of a group and moving the component in the x, y or z direction automatically takes all the other components of the group with it.....so that's not your question.

If you want to copy a group, then in the Tree view, right click on the Group and select "Select Hierarchy", and the whole group will be highlighted. You'll then be able to Copy and paste the whole group.

If you want to move the group to somewhere else in the hierarchy of the model, then simply drag and drop the Group.

Have I answered the question? If not, please explain what you're wanting to do.

Glad you're sorted.

Out of curiosity.....which one was it?

The first one, moving all the parts within one group.

Thanks again, Jack
