Over the top ????

I've got a lot more data on wheel and flange sizes recently.
Is it time to upgrade the plugin to prodice a more accurate profile?

I upped the number of sides to 40 and added 2 extra faces to the profile (160 extra polys per wheel!)
This produced about 9000 polygons for the pacific loco wheel set.

I think this may be the future, heading for the 100K poly locos.

Cool.

I suppose that one day, graphics cards will be able to produce round objects, cylindrical objects, ovals, ellipses and even oblate spheroids, as single items instead of lots of segments and polys.

They already can - they're called n-patches or bezier patches.
Just not on all cards, so not many software companies make use of them - I think there is a bit of a standards war between ATI and Nvidia on this one.

That looks really great Paul.
Have you had a go at the panelling plug yet?

Panelling plugin is after all the FSX stuff
- should be working on it in a couple of weeks.

I also want to do a better chamfer operation that keeps the chamfer square to the edge, possibly with proper curved edges too - Mathematically very similar to the panelling plugin :)

That was quick Paul :D Thanks, am looking forward to it, then I can revamp all of the toplights, dreadnoughts etc. At present I'm in the middle of nine variations of the Minks. Got V1 & V6 with the curved corners out of the way.

The wheels look super.

Will they be included in the new 7.4.1 upgrade to 3DC?
