Managed to get my 3F moving (sort of) in the sim, though haven't managed to get the animation working yet!!
Probably won't be able to do much more till later tonight.

I can convert .bmp maps ok, with toace but havent had much success with a texture using an alpha channel (hence the purple paches on the side of the loco)

Cheers,
Kevin

I would recommend trying DXT5 ACE files - they should support transparency/translucency

Transparency is supported for models but you need to set the shader name for the material
(see http://amabilis.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/ ... 2710998141 )

The list of shaders is in the RS Dev Docs.

Hi,

I had this problem but using the RGBA 32bit(v2 only) option in ToAce gave the correct result in KRS but still showed up red in the Asset Manager.

Cheers

Either ToAce or the Asset Manager converter does not seem to work for me. I have a 256x256 .bmp file but after ToAce and then running it through the Asset Manager, my model is red all over. Using RS Bin Tool, I can see that the TgPCdX texture file created is all red. If I manually create the .dds file from my .bmp and use RS Bin Tool to recreate the TgPCdX file, my model looks right in the Route Editor.

I'll have a look at this, I have been working with DDS these last couple of years, I was going to have a go with this last night but left my RS disk at work! (Don't ask!)

I want to try and get my Aircon MK2's into RS if poss so will try and tackle it methodically and using Ians tutorial for doing the post export stuff.

Nice to see a loco in there though :)

Decided on a coach since it has coded anim and is a piece of stock.

Kevin, are you converting from DDS for the alpha'd textures?

The interesting thing about creating a coach is the object reuse aspect. There should only be one axle (reused 4 times) and one bogie (reused twice, but mirrored). Then the bogies can be reused for all the other types of coach. This is something new for MSTS modellers.

Yup it is, we had this in TMTS also with a similar system, makes sense really.

I have read through the docs so it should be fairly straightforward, I'll be doing the Bogies first and then adding the body component, then we'll see how it all goes together since I'll export it on completion and sort any issues, this first one will not have opening doors, I'll do that later, main task is learning and then getting it in the sim gradually - I may be some time!

I have just had the same problem on my new Dell Laptop - running Vista and DX10. I have updated the drivers to no avail. UAC is switched off as it was irritating me but sounds as if that is not the problem. Not a complete showstopper at present as the main PC is still XP and I can do my 3DC work on there, but it does appear to hasten the need for Amablis to sort out the Vista compatability issues. There's every likelihood with the release of MSTS2 next year I'll be upgrading to a Vista DX10 for the Desktop too so XP will no longer be an option.

Vern - were you installing on the C drive?

Version 8 of 3DC may be written with .NET which should alleviate a lot of problems with vista.

Canvas will only run on Vista if UAC is activated.

Yes it's working okay after reactivating (just got to live with those annoying Vista prompts!).

Note that v7.0.4.1 has been released, which attempted to follow the DevDocs convention, and put texture files into a 'Textures' sub-folder, but it does not seem to have been a great success - yet.

Hi Ian and all,

I managed to export a copy of my old breakdown crane from MSTS into Rail Simulator with no problems under 3DC v7.0.4 but when I tried to export a couple of shipping containers, just simple rectangular shapes under v7.0.4.1, they both appeared without textures.

I am going to see if Ian's method of converting my original textures to .dds then to TgPcDx works

I note that Paul recommends trying DXT 5, however all of the default models are DXT1 or DXT3 and that is what the RS documentation recommends.

As for running 3DC - It runs fine without the UAC under Vista as long as you run as Administrator, at least it does on my PC.

Further to my above message, I discovered that if you are using the ToAce.exe program and your original files are just plain .bmp files, then if you select RGBA 32bit (V2 only) as the .ace file type, then they appear fine in the Rail Simulator.

As under:-
