Hi Pete
Not sure what you mean by 'sub divide' - I'm a newcomer too....
You can divide a 'face' using the object operations tab, and the 'point and face' selection tool from the right-hand tool bar........??? Select the face you want to work with, and click on the the 'divide' button - fourth along top row of object operations.
This allows you to divide up a face from eg a cube primitive and pull out/extrude points etc from part of the original face or whatever
You can also make new edges etc from the points and faces- which is about as far as I've got so far.....

From your question I'm not sure if you're asking about dividing faces or the hierarchy of the model. Making one face into two or more can be accomplished by a variety of methods. You can use the Divide operation which has several settings. Or I sometimes will divide a line into several segments and add a line from one to another line somewhere to create a new face. It's harder to describe than show which is hard to do by typing. You do need to experiment a bit and keep asking here among other things. Try and keep the questions as detailed and as specific as you can. It's all part of the learning curve but I've found people here helpful as well as at the Amabilis site.
