Deleting Crafter 10.2

Post by PWHolmes »

I need to build some scenery items for a route I am building.

In the old days I used 3D Canvas 9.summat with textures by PSP7 converted with Makeace and was pleased with the result. I now have windows 10, 3D Crafter 10.2 (which crashes every time I try to use it and seems to be unworkable - hopeless!!). I have tried Blender with Gimp for textures and quite simply I am completely and helplessly floundering - the words "old dogs" and "new tricks" spring instantly to mind.

So I want to go back to the old ways. Questions:

1) Will 3D Crafter 9.whatever work with windows 10? If so, where can I get it from?
2) How do I delete 3D Crafter 10.2? It doesn't appear in the Windows Uninstall programme and I can't even find it anywhere on C drive!! Its there somewhere because it tries to start and them crashes whenever I click the icon.

Please help - I am totally stuffed!!

I've been looking into this a bit further - the free download is bereft of the trainsim plug in - this was only included in the "plus" and "pro" versions.

I used to have the plus version but that has now gone - does anyone know where I can get a download of the plus version from or is there a TrainSim plugin anywhere?

The general consensus seems to be that Crafter is dead in the water.

Hi,

For what it may be worth, I can confirm that v9.3 works on Win10. There's at least one quirk/bug ( surprise? ) on the position control - there may be some on some of the plugins too.
I'm fairly sure that Decapod updated his plugins for the 9.xx versions. There was something about v9.5 which escapes me at the moment - I recall trying it but reverted to 9.3.

The Amabilis site appears to be dead now so 'official' download of versions earlier than v10 may be difficult. Do you still have a licence code for v9? You'd need this anyway, I think, to get the full features.

I didn't try v10 so no idea where the installation might be. If it isn't obvious in 'Program files' , 'Program files(x86)' or 'Program data' I suppose it may be tucked away in Windows. Maybe someone else will help. What do you see if you right-click the icon and look at properties? The desktop icon may be a shortcut to the file location.

I've stared hopefully at Blender but haven't yet convinced myself that the effort would be worthwhile....

Cheers

Hi
I have a similar problem.........
I have all the 3DCrafter files including the Trainworks and Plugins for 9.3 & 10.2 but I had a PC crash and cannot find my 9.3 Licence code to complete a re-install.

If you have a licence code, I am more than will to swap the install files for a licence code!

If I remember correctly, payment for the 'Pro' versions of 3DC were handled by SWREG/ Digital River ( or something like that). I had a problem getting the licence code for my first version and I think they emailed it to me. Long time ago now of course, but might be worth a look?

Hi Steve - nice looking work on the WHR/Ffesti models!

Thanks for your help, everyone - it is appreciated.

I did have a licence code for an antique version of 3DC plus but that went ages ago on a huge PC crash. As far as the website Ozziedriver, that's where I just downloaded the free version that dont contain the Trainsim plugins.

I have tried to get to grips with Blender but it ain't easy. The first thing I want is a five bar gate in GWR cream which I have managed to build but now need to texture (Arrghhh - Gimp!!!) and then find a way of adding it to the game. After that a small platform mounted GWR signal box.

Much frustration approaching I think!

Whew.......big relief.
I have eventually found the licence codes I need and have reinstalled v9.3.

Started to think I would have to start on the big learning curve to use Blender but have put it off again for a while. :D

I envy you, Steve. I am afraid that I have no choice but to climb the mountain.

I have managed to build a .blend file of a 5 bar gate, all I have to do now is to learn how to texture it and then to export it into TrainSim 2020.

Does anyone have any ideas of how to learn how to do this? With both TS Modeller (long dead) and 3D Canvas (er.... Crafter, sorry! - now seemingly on its last legs) there were easy to follow manuals and tutorials specifically telling you how to build, texture and export simple MSTS and TrainSim models. All I can find for Blender is standard tutorials seemingly aimed at people who want to create animated movies.

I just want to build railway scenery and put it into TrainSim 2020.

Have a look in the Blender forum just below this, and as an aside, the exporter for 2.8 is now available so you can use that rather than 2.79 if you wish.

I use 3DCrafter 9.1, running on Windows 10.

I have looked at the link posted by Ozzydriver
https://3dcrafter.software.informer.com/download/
I have not downloaded 9.1.msi but the file is the right size

I think that you can have this version and a v10 installed at the same time.

I could never get version 9 to install and operate on my version of Windows 10 so I just bit the bullet and started using Blender. Yes, Blender is harder to get used to than 3D canvas, which I have been using since 2002 or so, but in-the-end you realize that it's just a better tool.

I started writing up some of my experiences from NOTES I gathered while learning blender. https://github.com/pwillard/Ebook-ORTSBCCN
