Good news from yesterday about the Nottingham Express Transit:

The ironic thing is that building these tram routes will see the GCR bridge that used to span over Nottingham Midland Station being reinstated!
NET routes 2 and 3 get legal go ahead

It's amazing that parts of the bridge system were left standing for thirty years or more, yet are now to be rebuilt after less than five.dkightley wrote:The ironic thing is that building these tram routes will see the GCR bridge that used to span over Nottingham Midland Station being reinstated!
I always said that closing Victoria Station was the worst move BR made.

Fantastic news, but didn't the DfT say last year that tram schemes were a bad thing? I assume Leeds and Liverpool city councils aren't too impressed after the fight they had to try and bring trams back to their respective cities. Does this mean theres a chance trams could return to Leeds and Liverpool as well or is it because its an extension rather than a completely new system?

"The city council said it proposed to generate the funding from the introduction of a workplace parking levy. "
Nice..... that should go down a storm for those workers travelling from areas, not serviced by the trams.
Cheers

I don't see why they can't extend the Clifton branch past East Midlands Parkway and to East Midlands Airport. Then they could do away with the bus that goes between Parkway and the Airport and have a dedicated link

You'd probably need an interurban tram for that. Since you'd want more seats than standing room. Plus it'd probably be highly unlikely to happen without a lot of funding and subsidy from the airport, as it'd be highly unlikely to ever see a return on the money.geezertronic wrote:I don't see why they can't extend the Clifton branch past East Midlands Parkway and to East Midlands Airport.
