Her mainline ticket runs out next year or this year. however her boiler ticket dnt run out till 2012, thts why we want to do an intermedaite on her so we can run her rite up to 2014.
Me personally thinks tht we will repair her, as i think we had ordered new tyers for her. You can add another 2 locos to tht list aswell!! 34105 and 76017!!!

Does that mean there have been developments in soon returning them to steam as I seem to vaguely remember hearing legal troubles about these and their owner (who I think is John Bunch?)

I've been told 76017 will go in first then eventually 34105. Most probably after 76017 is complete.Zoid99 wrote:Her mainline ticket runs out next year or this year. however her boiler ticket dnt run out till 2012, thts why we want to do an intermedaite on her so we can run her rite up to 2014.

I also havent read anywhere that says an intermediate overhaul would be carried out on 73096. Most people in the know have said she would have been withdrawn next year full stop. 34016 didn't see a full 10 years, she only ran for her 7 year mainline ticket and a slight extension.
John Bunch doesn't own 34105 or 76017, infact as there were so many shareholders of 34105, no one really knew who owned it, some members have moved on, passed away etc. That is why she has been waiting for an overhaul for so long.dgraw wrote:Does that mean there have been developments in soon returning them to steam as I seem to vaguely remember hearing legal troubles about these and their owner (who I think is John Bunch?)

Re: 73096 Blown Cylinder?
Just to disspel any rumours - I work for MHR, so my information is most likely to be correct.
The reason for the blown cylinder is a core-plug drop-out. It is NOT driver or firemans fault, nor is it any fault of maintenance. This is a relitavley common problem with the BR standerds.
The next due overhaul for 73096 (before the incident) was around 2010.
There are legal troubles with 34105 - Swanage, as most of the shareholders were not documented, passed away or moved on. On the lighter side it has been moved into Ropley Sheds and been given a clean

Yes pressure was much higher than normal. The first I heard of it (I was on duty at Medstead) was Ropley signalman phoning up to say "had we recieved a train as he has lost it". Then after many frantic phone calls, 3 hours, fire, angry passengers, a replacement bus which didn't turn up until after service was resumed, normal(ish - no timetable) service resumeddgraw wrote:If you look on the national preservation forum under the MHR gala thread there is good discussion on the incident, and people seem to have a good knowledge of what and how it happened.
Someone even managed a picture of the bit that fell of on the line side.
It was the first service of the day so pressure must have been rather high but it may have been slightly lower than normal?

Re: 73096 Blown Cylinder?
Thanks for the final two comments, clearing up what's happening, I've learnt lots over this incident!
Re: 73096 Blown Cylinder?
Well I've been over to Butterley today, and was given the nod that 73096 is expected to be
arriving at the Midland Railway Centre to join 80080 in the repair shop.

I haven't heard anything to contradict that (if you get my drift....)Crimpsal wrote:Well I've been over to Butterley today, and was given the nod that 73096 is expected to be
