Contrary to what you'll hear in the media about Tornado, I'm sure Hunslet were building similar locos until recently for export and the Ffestiniog only completed Taliesin in 1999. Similar things have been done on other short narrow gauge lines as well.

I believe the officers of the company are long serving members of the Lynton Barnstaple trust, therefore have experience in the previous build of "Axe". They will also have experience of the "Lyd" project at Ffestiniog, so I think the project is probably a viable one. Whether their £1/3 million and 3 year estimate for the build is accurate we can only guess?

This project has been on the stocks for a while, but I suspect they are hoping the success of Tornado will stimulate the public interest they require to get it going.

I expect the current economic climate will prove a stumbling block.
I hope it does come off though, and I wish them every success.

Personally it isn't a loco that interests me due to it not being a main line loco or even that requested,i gather a lot of people would think the same,but then again.....good luck anyway!

Lyn is a popular loco with many people and i believe a substantial amount of money has already been raised. Plenty of narrow gauge replicas have already been constructed, even the continually cash strapped Festiniog has built 3 new locos and is well on the way with number 4. I expect that Lyn will be more likely to attract sponsorship than yet another GWR "green tender engine class" loco.

Of course the main purpose of this replica is to show how utterly useless the Manning Wardles were.

I suppose it depends on what people like,been an LNER fan obviously Tornado interests me and my dad pays some towards helping Paul Burns and his crew build 72010 Hengist.
